Not bad by their front office, good young player that is certainly good to build around. Source: Brandon Roy, Portland Trail Blazers agree to 5-year extension - ESPN
brandon roy is a great player, but $16 mil a year is a lot of money. for a max guy, just not a very good value... these contracts were common in the early 2000's (and disastrous capspace killers), but nowadays I dunno if anyone deserves max money except LBJ.. how can you justify spending 30% of your payroll on 1 very good (but not exceptionally great) SG? hell, even Ben Gordon is a better value at $11 mil a year (which is also about 3 mil too much in this economy)... the whole NBA economic landscape will be so much different in a couple years, i'd hate to be strapped with these huge contracts going forward. just watch, 2 years from now guys will be making much less. but even with the cap as is, 30% of your payroll on a borderline all-star SG, no thanks!
LBJ, Kobe, & maybe Wade are the only Max player's in the league IMO. If you pay 30% of the cap to one player then he better be the type of player that can win with 1-good player and 3 role players a-la Michael Jordan.
role player no... but the boy is so overated its crazy... him being named one of the 50 greatest players of all time was a Joke in my book.
That is a joke indeed, but he'll be a great player in this league no doubt. Who cares how much money he's making, he's in Portland.
No, I consider him to be the 1-"good" player, he was however the greatest glue guy that I've ever seen play the game, Tayshaun can only dream of such sticking abilities.
For brother's it's jus' aiight, Atlanta and Miami are much nicer playgrounds for us, but the Hawks franchise is disfunctional at best.
Oh yeah. I didn't factor that in. I was thinking that we were talking about this guy: Portland is hackey sack paradise.
