No problem. The guys I'm looking at none of you will even recognize. :-)
Haha, well, that's good to know. Like-minds lol.
Aaalright, sixth man time. I love Dirk, and Kemp, but Hakeem and Russell are gonna log a lot of great minutes for me in the front-court. R. Miller was a big-time'r, and I'm thinking seriously about him. G. Hill was great in his short prime. T. McGrady too. The Glove was such an intimidator, I'd love to have him. Earl the Pearl was such a stud. I don't know. I sort of hate to do it - because I hate him - but I think that Allen Iverson is the best player still on the board. Allen Iverson. Walter - you're on the clock. Draft: 1st Round: #1) Laimbrane: M. Jordan #2) coynejeremy: W. Chamberlain #3) *Woody: J. Havlicek #4) Tas: L. James #5) Walter: M. Johnson #6) blueadams: H. Gotta go with Coyne...........then Woody. Walter is my dark horse............
Dont forget, we're going to pick 1 season for each guy, not go with their career.
I've got nothing going on this Sunday morning, so I'm going to break-down some of the match-ups thus far.. Starting with my own: blueadams vs. Woody C: H. Olajuwon(7-0, 255)-----B. Walton(6-11, 210) PF: B. Russell(6-10, 220)-----E. Hayes(6-9, 235) SF: S. Pippen(6-8, 228)-----J. Havlicek(6-5, 203) SG: G. Gervin(6-7, 185)-----P. Maravich(6-5, 197) PG: J. West(6-2, 185)-----B. Cousy(6-1, 175) 6th: A. Iverson(6-0, 165)----- Looking at my team, I think that I've got 2 of the 3 best post-defender's in the history of the game in Hakeem and Russell (with Wilt being the other). I hate Pippen, but I think he's one of the best wing-defenders in the history of the game (along with MJ, LeBron, etc.). And J. West, I believe, is one of the best small guard defenders in the history of the game (along with Payton, Frazier, etc.). So.. Defense is going to be, I think, THE major strength of my squad. Woody did a great job putting his team together late, but he missed out on all the real-deal studs, and there's no one on his team that really scares me. Hakeem and Russell, I think, are going to shut-down Walton and Hayes. West is going to shut down Cousy. Pippen's gonna shut down whoever's playing better between Havlicek and Maravich. Then I'll use Gervin against whoever's doing worse, and he won't be in that bad of shape. Russell's the greatest team leader and winner there's ever been (his rebounding won't hurt either). My team's head will be in the right place for sure. Offensively, Hakeem, IMO, is one of the 2 best interior scorers of all-time (along with Wilt). I think he'll abuse whoever's on him (Walton or Hayes). West, IMO, is one of the best 2 point-guard scorers of all-time (along with Oscar). I think he'll take the old-school Cousy to the cleaners. Pippen's not an all-time great scorer, but he's a huge physical mismatch for Havlicek or Maravich. Gervin and Iverson are two of the more prolific scorers of all-time as well (probably the 3rd and 4th best SG's of all-time). I like my odds. Woody's put together a real bunch of scrappers though. Smart, tough, skilled players. Probably a little overmatched physically in this one though.
I'm wondering if this simulator is going to be biased towards PER rankings.. Looking at the best single-season PER rankings of all-time Top Big Men: C, PF 1) W. Chamberlain(62-63) 2) D. Robinson(93-94) 3) S. O'Neal(99-00) 4) K. Abdul-Jabbar(71-72) 5) C. Hawkins(68-69) 6) K. Garnett(03-04) 7) C. Barkley(90-91) 8) K. Malone(96-97) 9) G. Mikan(53-54) 10) B. Pettit(58-59) 11) D. Nowitzki(05-06) 12) S. Haywood(69-70) 13) A. Stoudemire(07-08) 14) H. Olajuwon(92-93) 15) T. Duncan(03-04) 16) M. Malone(81-82) 17) N. Johnston(56-57) 18) A. Gilmore(71-72) 19) E. Brand(05-06) 20) Y. Ming(06-07) Top Wings: SF, SG 1) M. Jordan(87-88) 2) L. James(08-09) 3) D. Wade(08-09) 4) T. McGrady(02-03) 5) J. Erving(75-76) 6) E. Baylor(60-61) 7) K. Bryant(05-06) 8) L. Bird(87-88) 9) G. Hill(96-97) 10) P. Arizin(51-52) 11) J. Drew(75-76) 12) B. King(84-85) 13) V. Carter(00-01) 14) R. Barry(69-70) 15) G. Gervin(77-78) 16) J. Jones(68-69) 17) A. Dantley(83-84) 18) D. West(64-65) 8) A. Hardaway(95-96) 9) 10) *only the top 250 PER seasons of all-time were on the list I saw, and there were only 19 and 8 different wings, points.
1st Team PER: C: W. Chamberlain PF: D. Robinson SF: L. James SG: M. Jordan PG: C. Paul 2nd Team PER: C: S. O'Neal PF: K. Abdul-Jabbar SF: T. McGrady SG: D. Wade PG: O. Robertson 3rd Team PER: C: C. Hawkins PF: K. Garnett SF: E. Baylor SG: J. Erving PG: M. Johnson interesting, I guess
CJ vs. SJ: C: Wilt----------Shaq PF: Kareem----------KG SF: Barry----------Nique SG: Tiny----------Kobe PG: Stockton----------Zeke 6th: ----------Worthy Never thought I'd be thinking this after CJ got Wilt and Kareem, but I'm going to go with SJ here. Wilt on Shaq, great matchup, but I'm taking Wilt all day. Kareem on KG, another great matchup, but I've got Kareem all day. Barry's a hell of a scorer, but he'll be at a major physical/athletic disadvantage against Nique and Worthy. Kobe's gonna work over Tiny. Zeke's gonna work over Stockton. CJ's still got someone coming in, but SJ's got the edge right now.
Tas vs. Walter C: D. Robinson----------Ewing PF: Barkley----------Duncan SF: LeBron----------Erving SG: Wade---------- PG: CP3----------Magic 6th:----------K. Malone This is close. In the front-court, I like Walter. David Robinson's the best of the four, but Ewing's not a bad match-up on him, and the six-four Barkley is going to be mismatched against Duncan and Karl. The six-nine Magic is an enormous mismatch in favor for Walter as well on CP3. If I'm Walter, I'm using my next pick to grab someone who can manage LeBron. Do that and I think it's yours.
Laimbrane vs. BillLaimbeer C: Dwight----------Pettit PF: Rodman----------Bird SF: Durant----------Elgin SG: Jordan----------Oscar PG: Nash----------Kidd 6th:----------Moses Malone Another close one. Dwight's a huge advantage over Pettit, but not Moses. I'd much rather have Moses than Dwight. Rodman's a great guard on Bird, but Larry's probably going to bring more overall. Elgin and Durant are a great matchup, I'd give Elgin a slight advantage. Oscar and MJ are a great matchup too, I'd give MJ a slight advantage. Kidd and Nash are sort of a push. Laimbrane's still got a pick to get himself a difference-maker.. but I'm going with BillLaimbeer thus far.
I just made a bunch of posts, but, Walter, you are on the clock.
At least your team won't have to worry about practice.
Bill Russell, ironically, didn't participate in many practices either. Perhaps he'll reach out to the bull-headed youngster.
We're not talkin' bout games. We're talkin' bout practice!
I don't know how the scoring is going to be figured. I trust you guys to do it fairly. I'll just pick'em, and you can kick'em.
Sorry for the delay guys. I go with Reggie "the blockee" Miller.
I love it!! Doesn't anybody know they played basketball before 1985, of maybe even 1995??
99% of athletes from 20-25 years ago wouldn't hold a candle to modern professional athletes.
Hey, blue, I've reviewed your comments concerning our potential match-up, and after further review, I think you're all wet! However I haven't had a chance to list my last choice, but with him, I think I've got you covered offensively and defensively. Just you wait!!!
