I am trying to work out how the NBA draft for Detroit works over the next couple of seasons. 2014 first round draft pick to Charlotte Detroit's own 2014 1st round pick to Charlotte (Top-8 protected in the 2014 NBA Draft, top-1 protected in 2015 and Unprotected in the 2016 Draft). [Charlotte-Detroit, 06/26/2012] Definition: The NBA prohibits teams from trading first-round draft picks in successive seasons. This is known as the Ted Stepien Rule. Above is what we owe Charlotte and the NBA rule regarding first round draft picks. So if Detroit owes Charlotte a first round pick possibly as early as next season, does that mean they cannot trade their first round pick this season as that would result in us not having a first round pick for 2 years in a row? I am not suggesting we trade the pick or anything I was just curious.
