ESPN - Ovechkin, Capitals agree to 13-year, $124 million contract extension - NHL Washington Capitals Superstar Alexander Ovechkin becomes the NHL's first $100 million man. I really like this kid. He is an amazing player and really seems well grounded. Ovechkin even worked as his own agent in the deal. I loved his reaction: I think this is a great deal for both sides. Your thoughts?
I think it is going to make it difficult for Caps when one player is about 15% of the total salary cap. Hockey teams are not exactly like basketball as far as number of players, so it will be tough to fill the roster. At least that's how I see it.
He contributes a lot, but they have nobody else that can contribute on regular basis. He is the team.
Sad thing is, that's not even the longest contract in the league. Islander's goalie Rick Dipietro signed a 15 year $67.5 million contract in 2006.
