This trade could mean that the injury to Varejao is worse than first thought and he might not return this year. Having Wallace and Varejao in the lineup at the same time is redundant and Big Ben would probably not play with Big Z, though it is possible on a limited basis.
The more I think about their new roster, the more it scares me. They have so much depth now, it is difficult to figure out who will start and who will come off the bench. Would you start West or Gibson? Czerbiak? Ben or Varejeo? Joe Smith off the bench? He's been one of the Bulls best players this year. Think of how good their half court defense would be on a final possession after a Detroit timeout with: Snow/West/James/Varejao/Wallace.
What would give you that impression? Z is already a scoring threat in the paint just like Sheed was. It would make perfect sense to put them on the floor together.
I agree with that. Z and Ben seem like very complimentary players. This should make both of them better. Since Ben is capable of guarding centers, they can even take out Z when playing against a mobile C. One of the problems with the Bulls was that they were incredibly redundant inside. They had 3 Ben Wallaces and no Rasheed Wallaces. Joe Smith was the closest thing that they had, and Cleveland got him too.
I hear everyone saying how further into the season, Shaq's and Phoenix will see more success. I see the trade as a downgrade for the current season. While folks are being optimistic, I also see Marion as being close to the best defensive player the Suns had. Looking at the top West Coast teams i don't believe they have a chance at a championship. You and your sour grapes.
Cleveland cleaned up on this one. Defiently improved their chances with this deal. What was Chicago thinking? Whats Larry Hughes going to give them? And his contract is not that much cheaper than Bens.
They clear out room for Noah and Thomas to play up front. Hughes only plays the same position as Gordon, who's likely gone from Chicago pretty soon anyway.
I hate school. I miss all the big news. Haven't read the thread yet, but WTF?! I hate rebuidling teams and i hate CHI. I think i'm more mad about Delonte West, and Joe Smith. And seeing Ben be buddy-buddy with LBJ is just going to reawaken my dislike for him that i had gotten over irrational as it may be. bla, stupid trade deadline Ok i read the thread, and i prety much agree with the general consensous. Joe Smith scares me. Delonte West scares me. Wally doesn't. Ben re-energized does a little. Let BOS deal with them. I hope the seedings stick.
I beg to differ...I think that just increased PHX's chances. They had no chance at winning the title with that run and gun ball for 4 qtrs. Now, they have some versatility and no matter what you think of Shaq that's good versatility.
I agree. I think the Suns have a chance now. I think the Cavs showed total desperation today, trading away half of their roster at this point in the season.
Ben will be re-energized in Cleveland. I don't think he ever liked the system in Chi-town and didn't play to his full potential...especially this season. He wont be the monster that patrolled the palace between 02-05, but he will at least give them a tad bit of what that fading Ben we saw in 2006. Don't know if it will make a difference or not but I think he and those other add-ons make the Cavs better than what they were...the question is will we have to play them in the post season, or will some team that matches up better >knocks them off and we avoid that issue
The wild card in this deal Szczerbiak kind of scares me. How many times have you seen a Cavs game and thought how deadly they would be with a decent 3-pt shooter? He is going to get all kinds of open looks out there.
+ Boobie G. Also, Smith is a good shooter. Look at his career stats and see how consistent he is across all categories. Perfect role player for a Lebron team.
