Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? I'm not opposed to Chris Webber coming to tha D, but I just don't think he is going to help very much. He is slow and often injured. He doesn't have a powerful post game and he isn't a defensive intimidator. Most importantly, he isn't a strong locker room personality that wants to win at all costs. Bring in Chris, and we now have two jumpshooting 4/5's to shrug their shoulders and say, "hey, what can you do?" I would prefer that we invest in a couple of cases of batteries to keep the Tazer charged up, and insert one pissed off Dale Davis into the mix. But, I'm usually wrong about these things, so maybe it will be just what the doctor ordered.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? :p_welldone: Thank you. I am now able to stay true to my New Year's resolution.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? I agree with Linwood. I would rather see Webber come here than not come here if it is next-to-free, but why on Earth are we 1) not playing Dale Davis, and 2) talking about trading him? If we are not going into rebuilding mode, then I want a defensively aggressive 7 foot veteran who is hungry for a Ship on the team. Now that we are done showcasing Nazr, let's trade him for something useful. Anybody here notice his pick and roll defense? He does the hard show about 3 feet outside the arc and then gets stranded there every time. I'm not sure why other teams don't just do that all day with him.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? It was interesting reading the Detroit News today and seeing Nazr being thrown overboard so publicly. So after 30 games of evaluation it's clear that he's not even a poor man's Ben Wallace. So trade Nazr and Flip Murray for a back-up point guard. There must be a quality player out there that we can get (Earl Watson comes to mind). We don't need Jalen Rose or Bonzi since we have Carlos Delfino so unless Joe wants to trade Carlos the first order of business is that back-up point guard since Lindsey Hunter is not a guarantee to come back in any kind of shape to help us in the playoff run. Chris Webber if he wants to play center is perfect for this year while we groom Amir and Maxiell to step un next year. Dale Davis is our only burly big guy to play the monster centers out there so he's worth his weight in gold come playoff time.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? Well said. Except, I don't really think Maxiell needs another year. He's bringing it every time. You gotta utilize these rookie contracts a little bit while they're cheap. If we want Webber, we're probably going to have to over-promise playing time. A little bait and switch action.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? I'm wondering why teams that are interested in Webber (e.g. the Pistons) are waiting 2 days for Webber to clear waivers so they can sign him as a free agent. Can't they just use their waiver claim and if they have priority they automatically get him? Do teams have to give something up if they claim a guy off of waivers? Isn't he already a free agent anyhow once he is placed on waivers since his previous team bought out his contract? If this was addressed previously, sorry, but I missed it.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? I could be wrong but I think if you claim a player off waivers you pickup their contract. Not sure how it would work in a buy-out situation though.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? Thank you. This made me laugh. You're not maintaining your resolution in good faith if you egg others on. be strong my brother.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? They won't waive him without a buyout agreement in place. Once he passes waivers, he is under no obligation to negotiate with the Sixers. Once he clears the two day waivers the buyout agreement comes into effect, I imagine in some way alleviating the full amount and/or timing on the Sixers payroll. Then he is a free agent, and only then can the Pistons get him. We can't grab him off waivers because his contract is still in effect, and if we get him, we would have to take all of his salary on (2 years, $43 million) which we are not allowed to do because we don't have room under the cap.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? So the buyout by Philly is contingent upon his clearing waivers? Or, put another way, he was given a buyout, but it does not go into effect until he clears waivers?
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? I guess that's right, Tater. Of course, his clearing waivers is basically just a formality, given that no one would be able to take on that monstrosity of a contract even if they wanted to (which, obviously, nobody would). Well, OK, maybe the Knicks gave it a little bit of thought.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? I think McCoskey is right on target. Webber almost certainly in. Mo Pete or Bonzi possibly in. Nazr probably out. Jr. & DD probably out. Can you dig it?
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? It will be a long weekend and this will be a longggg thread as David Aldridge who was interviewed on WDFN today indicates that nothing will happen officially until Tuesday... It makes since for Cwebb to come back here but he will be tempted by glamour of LA or Miami or playing next to Kobe,Wade, Shaq or Duncan. Coming back home will give him a chance to play with Hunter and Dupree ......or sit with them on the pine, but most important a chance to redeem his misfortunes at Michigan and be this years' Sheed factor that got the Pistons over the hump in 2004
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? What is wrong with Davis. When he's played he's looked Solid. He's not Ben Wallace but he's got inside presence. I'd take him over NAZr to anchor the middle and have Naz as a backup. I would rather move dyess and murray. is davis a more appealing player? man. I got mixed feelings about webber.
Re: Bonzi Wells & Chris Webber coming to Detroit? Davis has value because his expiring deal can be used to help a team avoid the tax next season or just generally clean up the books.
