    Sad news but expected.

He was one of the best coaches of all-time and the greatest Piston coach.

I was there when they retired a number for him. He said his career did not really begin until he was 50.

Chuck Daly and the Pistons were a perfect match. You had a very self motivated team led by Isiah and Laimbeer...and then you had Daly who was a great motivator but his genius was that he was so subtle with his motivation techniques. He was able to guide and motivate a group of headstrong players while making it seem like they were making all the decisions.

Later as he was finishing up with the Magic he was getting tired of dealing with NBA personalities. Penny Hardaway was probably the guy that made Chuck decide to hang it up.

    :rip: RIP Daddy Rich,

Thanks for a lot for helping in bringing those two titles to Michigan.

And bringing the gold medal with the Dream Team or the greatest team ever assembled.

A True Legend and Winner will now rest. :first:

Lakers vs Pistons, Game 4 at LA 1989 Finals on ESPN CLASSIC now.

Young heads need to watch what real basketball was.

Worst thing about this was having to listen to Dick Stockton call these games.

I heard it was postrate cancer. Nevermind. Hard to believe something could be chewing at your inners, killin' ya. But you don't know about it, til it's too late.
Personally I think this years Pistons was the final straw.
    Curry did it.

Nobody else would have been able to coach those particular Piston teams as well as Daddy Warbucks. He ehad the touch to be able to get thru to those big egos and get them to really work together.

Had he come along later, we might have had several 'ships with this just redently broken-up team instead of just the one.

    And what a dresser!!!

Actually it was pancreatic cancer and once diagnosed, chances of survving another six months is nil.

Lot of NBA legends giving testimony praises~~, Jordan, Magic, Dumars, Zeke, Mahorn, Hubie Brown, Vitale who said that Daly was the BEST coach the Pistons ever had & even Dennis Rodman stopped log enough to give some kind words that he was the best coach he ever played for.. basically his dad

Please program your DVR's tomorrow (Sunday) morning....In a tribute to Chuck Daly, ESPN Classic will show both Piston title clinching games from 1989 over the Lakers and 1990 over the Trailblazers tomorrow at 1PM EDT, (10AM PDT)

Hopefully the current Pistons watch the Badboys in action to show how a their predecessors played team defense.

Very true. He was also able to balance the other side of the equation as well on the management end.

This is a sad day for me, Chuck Daly was the original reason I thought the Pistons were pretty cool and maybe I could be a fan. Thank you Chuck for many years of enjoyment in my life. RIP.

Yeah the reason for moving a good scorer must be a good one. But quite was kept about Dantley.

Dantley was always an A-hole. He couldnt take Zeke being the boss, But If Zeke was the General, Chuck was the Secretary of Defense! Dont let the door hit ya, AD!!!:pound::pound:

and as it stands, we didnt even need Aquirre..thanks to Rodman!
