vs Cleveland Cavaliers Friday Feb 1 2013 - 7:30 PM EST Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit, MI TV: FS Detroit Plus RADIO: 97.1FM GO PISTONS!
With Calderon, we can get an idea just where this team is at. He should be able to get the team into sets and help position Monroe and Drummond down on the block. The organization can also see what is missing.
reports saying since the team usually doesnt practice after back to backs, Calderon might not play til sunday against the Fakers
Judging by his interview, he might be entering into an emotional place. He probably is very established in Toronto from a living standpoint.
You mean he can sit on the bench but does not have a work visa to play? At least he can watch the team in action the first game and then give them critique tomorrow...hopefully he picks up some tips watching Kyrie too. Rudy Gay came off the bench to score 7 pts in the first qtr tonight for Toronto vs the Clipps, and the fans gave him a rousing ovation on his first bucket...I am sure Tay will be in the lineup tonight for the Grizzz
"Maybe he's just going to have to forgo the three-pointer" - Greg Kelser on Rodney Stuckey after Stuckey committed a signature turnover trying to catch the ball in the corner with a heel out of bounds.
Before the last game, Knight heard about the Calderon trade and looked absolutely mopey. This game, after hearing that he would continue to start, he looks like the world has been lifted off of his shoulders. The kids look energized.
Tay hit his first shot in a Grizzly uni...played 6 minutes in the first qtr and didn't take any other shots .
How does a team miss 20 FT's and only make 4 three pointers score 117 points and win going away??? Well shooting very good inside the arc I guess. They shot 54% from the floor and 53% from the FT line. Good win!!! Lets hope Jose can even fine tuned that offense even more and they payback those Lakers for the beating they put on them back in November.
So, yeah... part of me really wants to be excited about the development tonight, but the reality is that Cleveland is a bad team that gives up the highest FG% in the league by a wide margin, has their best player out for the remainder of the season with an injury, and has the third worst record in the league. I'm trying to temper my excitement, even knowing that the Pistons managed to shoot only 28.6% from three-point land and miss 20 FTs and still win by almost 20. Knight looked great, but he always looks great against Cleveland (he's scored 20, 30, and 17 points against them this year). It was nice to see his turnovers down, but again, he only has five TOs against them in three games. Greg had a very good game and his best game against Cleveland this season, but he didn't have Varejao pulling down 13 and 18 boards like he did in the two previous games against Detroit. Singler was outstanding - 20 points and 8 boards was his second best game this year (that 16/10 effort in Portland was better, IMHO). Hopefully this IS a sign of things to come for him, because there wasn't a huge difference between what he was going against then and now. Even Stuckey played well, holding Waiters down to below half of his average ppg output, shooting a healthy 5-8 from the field and hitting all four of his FTs. Too bad Drummond couldn't hit free throws, because he only got 14 minutes of burn and had to come out when Scott went with the Bang-a-Drum strategy (Villanueva wasn't much better, to be honest). Hopefully Calderon took some notes on what Bynum was able to do with him, though. Six guys in double figures, two double-doubles, 12 guys played, 11 guys scored. 54% from the field, 27 assists and only 11 turnovers - hopefully that's them feeding off Calderon's energy and not the corpse of a pathetic Cavs team. I'm dubious, though.
Knight kinda looked like a basketball player tonight. I guess I can't complain about him playing the 2 with Calderon. Whatever minutes he plays there are minutes Stuckey can't. I like the North/South speed English plays with.
