    That an interesting theory.

Or maybe Collins just didn't want to be part of an organization that would let a guy like him into it.

I still think Kevin McHale would be a good fit for a team with young still developing bigs. He'd especially be a good fit if the Pistons were in contact with Gordon prior to the start of free agency.

It's obvious that Collins wasn't down with Amir being traded. After that transaction he saw absolutely no chance to succeed.

I actually like Collins, I think he knows his X's and O's. I wouldn't have minded him getting a chance to shed his coaching demons...especially with Laimbeer as an assistant.

I agree. In hindsight he seems to be a little emotionally frail or something. Maybe his wife didn't let him?

Actually, the Mavs D improved substantially IIRC after Avery was hired.

According to stats on NBA.com, the Mavs averaged (Oppt FG%,Pts allowed):

.459/100.8 - Last full year of Nelson
    .438/96.8 - The 50/50 year with Nelson/Johnson
    .443/93.1 - Johnson's 1st year
    .442/92.8 - Johnson's 2nd year (COY)
    .443/95.9 - Johnson's last year
.455/99.8 - This year under RC.
