    From the Free Press:

Lions free Safety spot up for grabs

Sounds like the new coaching staff is going to play who plays the hardest, instead of who they think they are obligated to play. And that's the way it should be.

I really like Bullocks. I wish he were able to land Michael Huff, but Bullocks in the 2nd round is a nice consolation prize.

He's got great speed and can really hit.

I like our depth at safety. This defensive scheme is a much better fit for Kennedy. There's much less of a distinction between FS and SS and it frees Kennedy to do what he does best. Attack the line of scrimmage. He isn't a great cover safety.

Holt is better suited as a backup, IMO, but I do like him. McGraw is versitile. Vernon Fox is a good depth and special teams guy.

Our CB's and LB's scare me. We have very little depth at either position and both are HUGE injury concerns. Neither position can seem to stay healthy.

I had high hopes for Holt, but he's lousy IMO.

If our D stays healthy, they should be pretty good.

    But a few injuries... ugly.

He isn't bad for a 5th round pick. I don't think he's a starter in this league, but a good depth guy. However, I'd rather have seen him start than Brock Marion! :frusty:

The FS needs to be the smartest intuitive guy on the D. He really needs to organize the DBs and LBs so they aren't bumping into each other. He needs to jump routes when he is not locked up with a x,y or z receiver.

Vernon Fox, the team's special teams MVP from last season, has been released along with 10 others. The Lions still have to release one more player by 4pm Tuesday to get down to the 75 man roster.

Is 75 the total number allowed for the season?

Or is that for the final exhibition game?

53 plus 5 on the practice squad.

So Pinner and Rogers are still not safe. Even Mike Williams for that matter I guess.

I think Pinner is safe. Unless he got hurt.

I don't know about Pinner being safe.

He's got Jones, Calhoun, Harris, and Bryson to compete with too. The way I understood, he was expected to be the odd man out, unless he really showed something during training camp.

I think Pinner is gone. Miami has shown some interest in him.

If the Lions can't work out a trade by Sept 2 (the deadline to get to the 53 man roster), I think he'll be cut.

It looks like its down to Rogers, Williams, Martinez and Bodiford for the final 2 WR spots. Roy, Bradford, Furrey and Drummond are locks.

The Browns are also interested in our backup G/C Brock Gutierrez. They've had crazy bad luck at C already and the season hasn't even started yet.
