I really need to check out for a while. Very frustrating that Joe would trade our backup SG... top defender, young player with good attitude, who hardly gets paid anything. Rip AND Ben??? Please God no.

According to McCoskey, Denver has a trade exception and can take on Alf's contract. The Pistons would take back the future draft pick and with money pursue Glen Davis.

I think giving up Arron is a bad move. Joe is purportedly attempting to quell this team of it's "switch flipping" egocentric mentality and moving towards the hard nosed "right way" attitude of yesteryear.

In my opinion Afflalo is a player that is indicative of that attitude. Why let him go for a mere $1 mil when we have a clear obstinate personality making $12 mil and occupying a position which we already have covered thricefold?

Maybe all the scenarios involving RIP have fallen through. I always figured afflalo being key to this team. Not everyone should be a primary scorer. The Denver posts article doesn't have much substance.

I guess Dumars trades Alf for Capp Spayce only when he has "yes" from potential addition.

I'll agreement with this... sure it's hard to see Afflalo getting decent minutes with the current configuration... Afflalo has the best work ethic on the team... he's unselfish and his shooting is solid...
Don't expect Washington to provide this type of consistency (especially with reduced minutes).
Considering age and contract it might be a better option to move Rip.

Surely Dallas would take him on. Cuban loves to spend money, and Rip could be had for fairly cheap. Joe has got to realize that you don't want to start this new era of Piston basketball with drama. We all saw how Rip was last year when he lost a few minutes to a future HOFer. The second we see BG and Stuck together playing well, and Kuester leaves them in during crunch time, this thing blows up.

IMO, there is absolutely no excuse for signing BG if Joe didn't have something already agreed on to send Rip for a Center.

    They have Piston salaries here
HoopsHype - NBA Salaries - Detroit Pistons

It would only free a little over 1 mil. Does not make much sense. What kind of player is a difference between 1 and 2 mil in cap space going to make.

Maybe Bass signing with Orlando will kill this deal. Unless he really is planning to keep Rip and is trying to do AA a favor.

I will not rate Afflalo's trade positively, I like this player... But if we don't trade Hamilton for a a player to 4-5 position, how much playing time will he get? I think, Hamilton's trade is a question of utmost importance now.

I don't think you dump a player as good as Afflalo (every championship team has one of these guys), just because you can't find a trading partner for Rip right at this moment. Something will come along. Rip is not a scrub.

Worst case scenario is trading him for an SF, that way at least Prince can pay the 2 off the bench.

I have a feeling that both Rip and Prince may be on their way out. Start completely new next year.

Rip's contract is UNTRADEABLE, nobody in the league outside of Dallas wants that type of financial commitment, and hell no to Dampier. I love AA and I indeed would choose him over Rip, but RIP AINT GOING NOWHERE with $48M left on his contract, might as well send AA somewhere he can play and earn himself a second contract.

If Rip truly is untradable, then Joe was an idiot to get Gordon. BG is not going to play the point, small ball is futile, and neither Rip nor Ben are going to accept coming off the bench... and Joe can't put another coach in that situation after claiming "never again" to locker room drama.

I really hope this doesn't happen. Afflalo, despite his offensive shortcomings, is one of my favorite players on the team. He's still got plenty of room to improve too.

Are there any untradeable contracts? Is Rip's contract one of them? I am not quite sure. Shaq has a huge contract and he is exposed to injury problems, but for the last 5 years he was traded 3 times.

    Arron Afflalo

Instead of trading him for a future 2nd round pick why not try to trade him to the Kings for Jeff Penergraph. Not saying pendergraph is going to take us to the promise land just saying he might be a solid player to have around the org.

I know the kings would have to want to deal but I'd make the call.

Also, how about Sommers? Could be a 2nd round steal.

    Welcome to the forum Matthew.

I hope AA doesn't get traded because financially he is a bargain. But we'll have to see. I don't think Joe will trade him without trying to improve the team.

Hey everyone, what an offseason this is shaping up to be. I’ve been neglecting my beloved Nuggets these last few weeks but I’m back into it all now. I love the idea of Aaron Afflalo. He burned the Nuggets at least once this past season in the one of the Piston’s several wins against us. When AI returned to the Pepsi center for the first time after the trade Afflalo came up big. He is a tenacious defender and would be a nice addition, possibly to replace Jones. I think the David Lee talk is preposterous though. There is no way there are anough minutes to go around for Nene, Birdman, K-Mart and David Lee, essentially semi-marquee 3 power forwards. We need a true backup center who will be cheap and won’t demand too much burn in the mould of a Gortat or Haywood. My 2 cents. (Denver Blog)

    I agree..
This blogger on the Denver site saw the same game that I did.

    Agree also about David Lee.
