Prince is clearly the better player and Daye has a frustrating tendency to float the arc so its not an issue of merit that I put this forward. Watching the first 3 games, we have several thing going on. Stuckey, Gordon and Monroe can all hit the open man and each one demands a defender (or two) commit. Jerebko is moving very well without the ball. When Wallace and Maxiell check into the game we lose those ball movement opportunities unless they are open underneath the basket. If you start Daye and get him to cut, or swing the ball to him after defenders commit to Gordon or Stuckey...we have a nice potential scoring threat. He can also block shots. Move Tay to the 2nd line up so he can dominate the ball and be aggressive. He could be a 1-2 punch with CV and BK doesn't alway have to create for them.
Tay played pretty nicely yesterday, but I'm all for it. Daye needs to toughen up and throwing him in there would let us see what he's got.
Tay is playing with a bad knee right now. Also, with the compact schedule this season, Daye will have every opportunity to get tons of playing time. In another couple months, after the team has had a fair opportunity to learn the new Franks system and they get a chance to be coached up the way we're hearing this team is being coached up (with great attention to detail), hopefully Daye will be a guy who proves he is a really good player in this league. He has outstanding ability. My question is whether he has the aptitude and the ability to be cool under pressure game in and game out. Last season, he won quite a few games with last second shots - so I know he can shoot the ball with the best of them. But I'm not sure he can be counted on to make the right plays at the right time, consistently. That's what he has to prove. If the coaches can get through to Daye, IMO, we're talking about a future borderline all-star in this league. I'm hoping to hell that he can reach his potential. Adding him to Knight, Monroe and JJ and Stuckey and a couple very high draft picks over the next couple years, and suddenly we have one hell of a core - IF Daye does reach his potential.
Daye hasn't been impressing me at all. He's just waiting there for handouts instead of searching for spots on the court where he can be effective. Cousins wants out of Sacramento. He's a headcase but we need a center badly. Trade Daye for him and other guys not named Monroe, Jerebko and Knight! Worse comes to worse, we could just trade him if he doesn't pan out.
Gambling for Cousins would also be fine (if Frank endorses it). He's the one that would have to coach him.
This guy had the reputation last season of being a major headcase, and the worst teammate anyone had ever played with. My concern is him being a character flaw guy, and not a young guy who will mature in time. Do NOT give up much to get him.
Starting Daye at the 3 doesn't make sense to me. If you're gonna push Prince to the second unit, then slide JJ to the 3 and insert one of JMax/Macklin/Wallace at the 4. Daye has done nothing (in the regular season) to warrant a starting spot. Besides, Daye & Knight seem to be developing some sort of chemistry. Keep those two together.
I still don't get the Tay signing; this team couldn't be worse with Daye. Yet, he rides the bench and his biggie-me Tay gets all the minutes at SF. Makes absolutely no sense.
Have you had the opportunity to see any games this season? Austin has looked AWFUL! Tay isn't anything impressive, but he is solid.
I still not on board with re-signing Tay but at least he doesn't back down from posting up Boobie Gibson.
Definitely the most frustrating seen I've seen watching Piston basketball in quite some time now. And just when I got it out of my head, you remind me
