Same here. 6'11 Austin Daye sent flying by 6'2 Boobie Gibson. He's called Boobie! *facepalm* That, plus he looks seriously awkward with the ball in his hands.
Last year Daye was our go-to game winning shooter and this year he's dog meat just because of a few clumsy performances? I believe he worked quite hard this summer to improve his game, so I'm not willing to give up hope in him until the pattern is more certain.
I totally agree with your idea of starting him Slip. This is a lost season and I'm all for anything and everything to develop our younger players for the future. Dudes like Daye and BK should start. V-Mack should get some freaking minutes with our collection of front line guys. I'm pretty sure that if Daye started and got starter's minutes; he'd be confident enough to post-up several PG's in the NBA after 30 or 40 games.
Until Daye can show some spark and get onboard the Jerebko 'lets play with heart and passion' train he can stay on the bench. No more passengers.
I assume players won't play until they sufficiently handle their defensive assignments. Bynum is out because of defense. Gordon is busting his hump, so he's in. Daye, I've heard, is struggling to learn his role on D. CV is far behind. I guess I just trust the coaching staff. But, I'm really hoping Daye earns lots of PT and soon - as I still see him as a potential star. Now that he's finally getting coached up by great coaches (first time in his NBA career), I'm kindof thinking we'll see some real progress.
With a couple of nice wins, I don't see why Frank would start tinkering. At least wait until the Pistons get blown out again...which could come soon enough.
It seems than Wilkins is doing better in scrimmages and practices than Daye, and Austin must be really lazy. I wonder what are the proves, for those who said that this Kid breaks his soul training in the summer???? Show me proves, not just tweets.
I think Wilkins has more to do with Daye not playing more than anything else, Wilkins has just been better. Not that I would expect Daye to not get back in there at some point.
There always some defensive minded veteran who can get their assignments on D over some noob guy. The problem with Wilkins is that he doesn't even look to be a threat. At least he is constantly moving and working to set good screens vs. Daye who looks like he's covering up some fulll frontal then shakes loose to shoot a 3.
I have not looked at the stats but it seemed Daye was really hurting the team with all the bad passes and overall poor ball handling. I don't know if he needed more time to get ready for the season or what the deal was. Plus he actually lost weight during the lockout.
vs. Indiana Daye 6 min +8 1 TO 1 BS Wilkins: 9 min -11 1 reb 1 ast vs. Boston Daye 16 min +5 5 reb 11 pts Wilkins: 12 min +4 1 reb 4 pts vs. Cleveland Daye 14 min -5 2 stl 1 BS 3 TO Wilkins 5 min +3 2 reb
so what? I'd rather have an awful Daye than a solid Tay right now. I really don't think it affects the amount of wins/losses and even if, the team needs to tank anyways
you want to lose the team as a new coach? play the kid getting outworked in practice by a vet... The time of golden spoon fed place on team (stuckey) is over, earn it on the floor... if you can't beat a journeyman vet for mins... maybe your not part of the answer for the team going forward... if you are, go fight for it on the practice court.
