Could Joe Dumars trade Rodney Stucky + FILLER for CP3 and NO's bad contracts?

New Orleans keeps showing why they are in big MONEY TROUBLE...they even have to accept a loan from the NBA itself....not even the Lions are that bad.

New Orleans Hornets accept NBA's loan offer just in case - ESPN

And add into that Mark Cuban has spoken that he said HE WILL MAKE A PLAY for CP3 this summer no matter what.

Dallas Mavericks Blog | Sports News | News from Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News

I honestly believe that Joe Dumars can offer MUCH MORE for CP3. I feel that if Mark Cuban is going to make a run for CP3, Joe should at least do something about it and try to win.

NOTE: I put Rodney Stuckey because I believe HE could be the piece traded for CP3 trade to work...he is still a young point guard and NO might want him anyways to take over CP3 when he leaves.

not only could this not ever happen in real life, but this also couldn't even happen in my dreams.

Trading away Chris Paul would inevitability fold that franchise.

    And Rodney ain't that good.

I don't believe any rumour until there are two sources. Not forums, not blogs. Not one source, quoting another (RealGM is famous for this).

I want two independent mentions of the rumoured event, and then I am interested.

This sounds along the lines of the Amare Stoudemire rumor. True they are in financial trouble and have to shed payroll but trading the franchise player is not the way to go. CP3 is the one who puts fans in the stands. Trading him may doom that franchise.

    Now Chandler may be available.

I agree. They won't trade Paul as that would spell the end of the franchise. This is nothing but a pipe dream.

Even if the rumor is true, the only thing it proves is that Cuban is a sensationalist idiot.

    CP3 makes < 5mil per year.

NO WAY do the Hornets trade him.

Also, the really "bad" contracts that NO has are (I'm not counting anyone whose contract expires this summer or next (aaaah the summer, 2010). I'm also not counting David West as he's been such a great piece for the Hornets.):

    Tyson Chandler (C), 3 years, $11.4M
    Peja (SF), 3 years, $12.5M
    M. Peterson (SG), 3 years, $5.6M
    Posey (SF), 4 years, $5.6M

NO is probably looking to dump Chandler & Peja and probably Peterson who hasn't been worth the money he's raking in. Posey is signed up for a long time, so his contract may not be very desirable, but he brings the veteran knowledge and he's been productive. NO will probably use Peterson as a trade filler before Posey.

But: THE HORNETS ARE NOT GIVING UP CHRIS PAUL

    Looking at the contracts above:
    • Peja is old and he plays no D. He's essentially an expensive Herrmann.
    • Peterson? Do we really need another guard?
    • Chandler could work here, but he's way too expensive. Is he worth more than Stuckey+Kwame+Amir+Herrmann? I think Kwame/Amir > Chandler personally.
    • Posey is the best bet for us. We can get him for Amir+Stuckey or Kwame+Herrmann etc. The big question is if NO will give him up. And if another team wouldn't have a better offer.
One thing I hope someone can help me with: Are the contracts of AI & Sheed tradeable? I mean, their contract expires when trading is allowed again, right? So, when the trades start, they are FAs and therefore we can't use their contract to trade for players. At that point, we'd just have to go out and buy FAs with that cash.

Paul is due for a new contract. If the Hornets can't dump bad deals, they might be forced to let Paul go if he follows the money.

Joe can make a move for Paul. I'm not sure he will.

Paul got extended last summer. He makes $13.75M next season ramping up to $18.1M for the 12/13 season.

For the record. I don't think other teams value Stucky as high as we do.

I don't think anyone values our guys as highly as we do.

Let's hope we're right and they are wrong.

If NO trades away Chris Paul, they might as well just fold the franchise. It's over... done with.

Dumars ran into that last summer. With Stucky - I just don't see another GM getting excited about his potential as much as we do. In reality he is a 2nd year player who avg 13 PPG and 4 APG as a starter. Not very good.

That DOES fall within the acceptable guidelines for the Pistons payroll.

Lol, I gotta ask is there a reason that people are constantly misspelling Stuckey's name on these boards? Is it intentional? It drives me crazy!

BTW, Stuckey is a lot closer to 13 & 5 than he is to 13 & 4. Those are solid numbers. Lets not make him out to be the next Luke Ridnour for chrissakes.

They have to accept LOANS from the NBA. The Seattle Sonics are coming back sooner then expected...

I know it's simply a dream, but it really seems New Orleans is in deep financial trouble.

Oh, I don't doubt that they are in some trouble. With the declining population of the city and the fact that they never had a big market to begin with, I doubt NO has an NBA franchise in 10 years.

NO WAY Joe uses MLE money on just ONE player.
    ...not even CP3! :nono:
