Makes you wonder what all the baulking was about.
Maybe they had a link on Rudi J. ?
Lewand is a pencil pusher, why is he blocking contracts?

It won't be long, with the Lions' offensive line, until Culpepper has a career-ending injury [again].

Because he's Jr's boy. Jr doesn't have any real position, but Lewand does his bidding.

    Lions fans are great!

...They need to stop being so "great" and boycott this mess until WCF gets the message or the league steps in.

I've pretty much given up pro football since Barry retired. I feel like the Lions ownership has robbed me of the pleasure of following one of the teams that I grew up rooting for and to artificially adopt another team at this point is not something I want to do.

I look forward to the day (Ford sells the team) that I can resume being a Lions fan.

Well, it looks like we dodged a bullet. No contract signed and no more news.

    :boom:OMG are we in for a treat!:toilet:

All this is, is another knee-jerk reaction to dupe the fans into filling the seats for Turkey day.

I'm sorry, but you can kiss your future goodbye now Drew.

I really want to see Stanton. But not at Orlov's expense. If the dee is waiting for Stanton before it will play...so be it.

Report: Daunte Culpepper would make $7 million next season

By NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • November 2, 2008

CHICAGO -- Free-agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper reportedly will sign a one-year contract with a team option for next year, giving the Lions a chance to look at him the rest of this season and the flexibility to part with him if things don’t work out.

The Oakland Press reports that Culpepper will receive a prorated veteran’s minimum salary this year and about $7 million next year.

Lions chief operating officer Tom Lewand declined to comment before today’s game against the Bears. But coach Rod Marinelli is expected to address the issue after the game.

I don't think so. But remember this is the Lions organization, not the Pistons or Wings.

Stanton's player IQ & running ability throws Colletto's meager playbook out the window.

Sources tell me that Culpepper is the man. Hardly any snaps for Stanton. The team is not thrilled to say the least.

Neither am I. I really dislike this move for a number of reasons.

    1. The season is lost. Why not see what we have in Stanton?

    2. Even if Culpepper has the best season of his career, it won't matter. He isn't a long term solution and this team needs a lot more help than just at QB to be any good. I'd much rather see what we have in our 3 young QBs, Orlovsky, Stanton and Henson.

    3. I see this as a move to a) fill seats and b) save some jobs in the front office and coaching staff. This has nothing to do with what is best for this team.

    4. So, what's the best case scenario here? The team is 0-8. Even if we win all remaining games (not a chance), we're 8-8 and miss the playoffs. The season is a complete right off. Maybe we win an extra game or two with Culpepper at QB. All that does is hurt our draft position. Kind of like the last second field goal at the end of the season that cost us the #1 pick in the draft. Players were jumping around like they had just won the Super Bowl.

    5. This completely undermines everything that Marinelli says about "earning" your job. What a bunch of B.S. Culpepper walks in off the street and is handed the starting job IMMEDIATELY. Either Marinelli is a huge hypocrite or this wasn't his call.

    6. I've come to the conclusion that any decision the Lions make is the wrong one, so this is automatically a bad move.
