Thanx for the info. I just put Sportscenter on DVR and as I did it, I noted a bit of Darko slamming. You know, I go to the Knicks board these days and it is amazing the resistence already building towards DMC before the season even begigns. It is like revisiting THIS board ! Feels good to stir the pot a little, again, like the good ol' days.
What I have noticed about Darko is that he really is one of a kind. He runs the floor, handles the ball, shoots an NBA three and plays with his back to the basket. So you can slot him at the 3, 4 or 5. Okay, a few other guys can do that too; what sets Darko apart is his toughness in the post. You’ve got to love a guy who has the footwork to spin by an opponent but still prefers to lower a shoulder and bang. Fact is, Milicic plays in attack mode at both ends of the floor. The more you push, the more he pushes back.
I watched the game last night and Milicic did not play badly. Most of the Knicks were not eager to pass him the ball, so he had to contibute where he could, by husling. He managed 4 pts, 2 rbds, 2 assts, 1 stl and a blk. Not a bad line for so few minutes. He did seem fairly miserable, judging from his body language.
That's a big change. He seemed much happier playing for Serbia. YouTube - Milicic Darko (English sub) after Serbia-Greece Euro 07 game
Appreciating Darko Milicic -- The Sports Section We're not sure Knicks fans are appropriately excited that Darko Milicic is playing for the team this year. It's Darko! Come on, guys, we have Darko! http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2009/10/03/2009-10-03_newest_knick_darko_milicic_should_be_ready_to_bust_out_as_nba_season_opens.html Darko Milicic has a Larry Brown story that ranks right up there with anything Isiah Thomas, James Dolan and Stephon Marbury could tell you. It happened in the closing minutes of cPanel®'s series-clinching victory against the cPanel® in the 2004 NBA Finals. Milicic, then a rookie, was on the floor in garbage time only to have his right hand broken by a hard foul. "I was asking to come out of the game but Larry wouldn't let me," Milicic says. "He told me to, 'Play the right way.'" Been trying to avoid DMC posts, and haven't seen enough of the D to comment on them (though I'd love to have seen what happened between Daye and Delfino). But since this thread has been started, and I live in the NYC area, and have watched the Knicks pre-season games and read the stories. Here's my take on DMC and the Knicks: It's great for both. Knicks will stink this year, but they need D. On the slight chance they make the playoffs, Darko will be a contributor. As far as Darko, his offensive game is broke. Larry killed it. But he is far and away the best defender on the Knicks, and he may be looking to rebuild his career as a defensive specialist. If he lives up to the Knicks expectations, he will be a free agent as a "defensive specialist, great passer, can run but with O problems" as opposed to "bust". On the other hand, it is possible he improves his O. First game I watched, he got the ball 20 feet out, froze, decided to shoot, bricked, then looked around waiting to get yanked. Thing is Mike D wont pull you for bricks, so once he realizes he has freedom to shoot, maybe the nerves will die down. Darko should do well in this system, whether he plays 15 or 30 mpg is probably up to how well he improves his offense. But one thing I've noticed, is that in the beginning everyone refused to pass to him, but as he shown he can set up others, he's been starting to get the ball more, and as he gets more comfortable, he's making more shots.
BTW, Darko is growing a mustache/goatee combo right now. Not sure how long he plans on growing it out.
When Darko played for Homofarm against all those grown men they probably played with broken hands all the time.
ii D'antoni has said he likes Darko game, and wants to let him run. If Darko can't thrive under D'antoni, it's over.
Caught the pregame shootaround... effortless three pointers... he dominated the shooting drill rebounding.
I have to agree. The Knicks are currently starting both Lee and Harrington. Now I like both those players, and in fact, they're the two best players on the team. Unfortunately, neither is a center by any stretch of the imagination. The Knicks need to start Milicic at center, along with...take your pick...Lee or Harrington at PF.
