We need a center. The magic have no salary left after signing Rashard to a Max deal. Do we go after Darko?
better question what is it going to take for detroit fans to forget about darko? we got way more out of memo a 2nd round draft pick who left for more money that we couldn't match.... but if we could get one of the two back i would take memo back first.
I think he pulls a Deshawn Stevenson before he signs a deal with us. 1 year for the minimum and then take a swipe at a better contract next year. In all honesty, I think the he would probably go play in Europe before signing with Detroit again. He would be worried about playing time, being able to play "his game", and would not trust that the fans would be behind him.
Amir as a virtual unknown has shown more positives in a Pistons uni that Darko ever has. I don't believe declaring him the once and future Piston is the best thing to do.
Tactically, that is a terrible move. DeShawn Stevenson was not looking for the type of deal DMC was. Darko's best bet IMO, is to take the shortest deal that will get him Bird Rights. That's a 3 year deal somewhere. If he can prove he is a $10+ million dollar player in 3 years, his own team can sign him, or he can become a FA. Darko's big problem is that a one year deal offers no long term security against injury, and while I haven't looked at projected payrolls or FAs for next season, he might go into the offseason facing the same or worse prospects than he did this one. Hope that makes sense the way I explained it.
When I see the list of our Centers, it's like trying to take your prom date to the big show in an AMC Gremblin. Although Darko is only a Skylark, that'll help when trying to go to the show..................
It makes sense roscoe. IMO, Darko playing in Detroit again would have to rank somewhere up there with Artest taking the Palace floor as a Piston. Speaking more so in the sense of PR moves, I don't know which one would be higher on the "don't do" list. On the other hand, if he bombed out this time around, I think even the DHOF club would start to boo him.
I don't know. The mettle of the DHOF club runs pretty strong. They'd figure out a way to depict him in a positive light. Joe D mentioned the other day about getting "tough" players for this team. Darko is soft. Roscoe said it when he was here and I still think it's true. Darko = Charmin.
I thought the bridges were burned when Darko left. First of all he doesn't feel comfortable in D-town. Second, do Pistons really want him back at this juncture?
We'll maybe sign Darko............Or Joe could make that deal with Seattle and say bye to Hamilton. I'd rather have Darko than lose Hamilton.
The more I think about it, the more I think Orlando is making the right decision to grab Lewis (assuming they can't afford Lewis and Darko). The twin towers thing is nice to have, but it is also redundant in a lot of ways. A big problem for Orlando was that Dwight Howard would get double teamed and would end up turning over the ball. The Magic need someone like Lewis to take the focus off of Howard. Also, put Reddick out there too, and they should really spread the floor. They also need a point guard, but with Lewis and Howard, they can get by with a 2nd tier PG. Still, they will have to get an upgrade over Nelson at some point. With Darko expressing that he wants to be the man, this may be better for him too. He'd probably be happy going to a crappy team and getting a ton of PT and shot attempts for 4 years.
Or Darko could go to a team like Phoenix or San Antonio and we can see him mugging for a group picture behind the trophy next year. That would be an enriching experience.
Is Darko's best shot a his desired salary a sign and trade? Refusing to do so costs him 10's of millions. Is that a correct assumption?
At this point, I firmly believe that Nash and Duncan can make virtually anyone look good. Darko would probably be getting All-Star votes in 6 months if he was able to pick up Amare's scraps and get bottle-fed by Steve Nash.
