i believe fino asked out. he's tired of the pistons lies. it isn't a euro thing it's just a young player thing. it seems like no young player will get a fair deal in the pistons uniform. i hope this changes pretty soon. delfino earned time, jmax earned time, amir earned time, darko earned time yet none of them recieved that playing time they earned. the only question is who is the next young talent to leave the pistons and we get nothing in return.
Well, I think Amir might be one of the beneficiaries here. Joe has been adamant about getting him into the rotation in those recent interviews, and this trade is quite possibly an indication that Joe means to deliver on that.
I agree. I think he will do better with Toronto and I really hope he thrives there. The more I think about it the more I like it. Ack is Back?
I thought you could not trade a player for just picks. I thought that a body and its cap space had to be involved. With that out of the way, I agree with others that Delfino wanted out. In the 6 games of ecf he played 34 minutes total his playoff stats are here NBA.com : Carlos Delfino Info Page He wanted out before it would make sense he wanted out now. I think he will get a chance to show what he can do in Toronto though.
the problem is when delfino was shooting a hot ball it seems flip would play him less. it also seemed like when delfino was shooting like 50% from 3's he didn't get more shots. i think that is the root of the inconsistency. i think that is the root of the lack of improvement.
Thanks for the assessment of Delfino guys. Not expecting to much from him but from what you guys have said he seems to help fill in some of the Raptors needs (Rebounding, Slashing SG/SF). Bryan Colangelo (Raptors GM) said it best. When you don't win and your not playing your young guys you've lost twice.
You can't trade for just picks if your over the Cap. Raps are under so they can take on a player without getting one in return. The nice thing for the Raps is that they were only 3 mil or so under and still have their MLE. Basically got Delfino for nothing without hurting their cap space.
Thanks KiBosh. Good knowledge of the situation. I'll just add that if both teams were over the cap, the Pistons would get a salary marker called a trade exception for the value of Delfino's current season (not sure if the 2007/8 salary cap year has started yet). The trade exception would be counted against the cap for one year, or until it was used up in another trade. We received one in the Mo Evans/Cheikh Samb trade and it expires on draft night.
The Pistons do get a trade exception in this deal. As you can tell from what we did with the Mo Evans one, it doesn't really have any value because it is such a small $ value and can't be combined with any players.
How about trading Flip Murray to make that room? I know it is easier said than done, but this was just a bad move.
My bad. You are right. I'm assuming the Pistons will renounce their right to this exception to clear the cap space mentioned by Keith Langlois.
Do you think Joe saw a 2/3 he liked that he could get in the draft?? The Pistons still need a backup PG and a legit C though as well. So this move still makes no sense to me.
himat, you have to wait to see what else is done this offseason. This move is just the opener in a game of chess. An appetizer. Like Buffalo Wings.
