Thanks for posting the schedule details Bezeach. Here are my early predictions.... Sept. 9: At Oakland This is about as winnable a game as they come, but the Lions suck in winnable games. Still, I think the Raiders suck worse. Prediction = Lions Victory Overall Record = 1-0 Sept. 16: Vs. Minnesota The Lions always struggle against division rivals... ok... the Lions always struggle against everyone. I'll give them a spit of the season series, with each team defending home field. Prediction = Lions Victory Overall Record = 2-0 Sept. 23: At Philadelphia The Lions suck on the road and Philly is one of the toughest places to play. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 2-1 Sept. 30: Vs. Chicago Grossman throws 6 INTs and has -45 yards passing. Bears D and Devin Hester combine to score 28 points and win 28-27. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 2-2 Oct. 7: At Washington Winnable game on the road that the Lions let slip away. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 2-3 Oct. 14: Bye week Oct. 21: Vs. Tampa Bay The Lions end their 2 game losing streak and come out strong after the bye. Prediction = Lions Victory Overall Record = 3-3 Oct. 28: At Chicago Da Bears blow Da Lions out of Da Water. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 3-4 Nov. 4: Vs. Denver Denver is too talented, too experienced and too well coached. Bly is booed in his return and has 2 INTs. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 3-5 Nov. 11: At Arizona This should be a shootout. I give the edge to the Lions simply because Arizona won last year. Prediction = Lions Victory Overall Record = 4-5 Nov. 18: Vs. New York Giants Manning Jr connects with Burress for the winning TD and then rips off his jersey to reveal his Paytonesque physique. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 4-6 Nov. 22: Vs. Green Bay The Lions always play GB tough at home. Favre plays like garbage at the Silverdome/Ford Field and it's Turkey Day. Prediction = Lions Victory Overall Record = 5-6 Dec. 2: At Minnesota The Lions play like poop in Minny. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 5-7 Dec. 9: Vs. Dallas The Cowboys will be looking for some revenge from last season. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 5-8 Dec. 16: At San Diego LT will have 2 TDs and 130 yards rushing by the end of the coin toss. Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 5-9 Dec. 23: Vs. Kansas City KC is a team on the decline. Prediction = Lions Victory Overall Record = 6-9 Dec. 30: At Green Bay Lambeau in late December? I take Lambeau. Although the Lions love to hurt their draft status by winning meaningless games... Prediction = Lions Loss Overall Record = 6-10
Hahaha, well I hope you have a lot of room in your PM box, because I'll probably be PMing you about 10 times this season.
Jammertime......Your list of victories include............ Green Bay at home. They were 8-8 last season. Minnesota at home. They were 6-10 last season. Kansas City at home. They were 9-7 last season. These games look hopeless to me cause I believe those teams are still better than the Lions. Also, you chose................. Oakland away. They were 2-14 last season. Arizona away. They were 5-11 last season. These games look hopeless to me since the Oakland defense is very formidable, and they will rebound this season on offense. Arizona has the right mix of veterans and new players to make great strides this season. Possibly, we can actually beat Tampa Bay cause we have them at home and they look to hit rock bottom this season. I'm afraid by the end of week 2, when we are 0-2, the fans will realise that Marenilli is not the right head coach...................
Sept. 9: At Oakland - LOSS Lions play a decent road game with a healthy roster, but they justhaven't proven they can win on the road and Oakland does have a decent home field advantage. Sept. 16: Vs. Minnesota - WIN Marinelli keeps the hope alive. Sept. 23: At Philadelphia - LOSS Morninwheg revenge! Sept. 30: Vs. Chicago - LOSS The Bears love to crush our souls at home. Oct. 7: At Washington - WIN Washington stinks Oct. 14: Bye week - (WIN ;) ) Oct. 21: Vs. Tampa Bay - WIN If this was in Tampa it would be a loss. Oct. 28: At Chicago - LOSS Hahahaha. Lovie OWNS Rod. Nov. 4: Vs. Denver - LOSS Shanahan wins the pound the rock game. Rocks over Scissors. Nov. 11: At Arizona - LOSS Arizona is a 50/50. Nov. 18: Vs. New York Giants - WIN I just have a feeling. Nov. 22: Vs. Green Bay - LOSS We always had a chance at the Silverdome. Dec. 2: At Minnesota - LOSS I hate the Vikes because we haven't been good against them in ages. Dec. 9: Vs. Dallas - LOSS Too much speed, too much talent for the Lions. We should be banged up by now. Dec. 16: At San Diego - LOSS Another team that is too talented for us. Dec. 23: Vs. Kansas City - LOSS Herm vs. Rod. Herm actually understands more than motivational blather. Dec. 30: At Green Bay - LOSS Packers deal the deathblow in Martz's final game as a Lions coach Overall Record = 4-12 We're right back to where we were with Mooch.
When looking at the schedule, I only saw three hopeless the 2 Chicago games and the Chargers. The rest, IMO, can go either way. Oakland and Arizona games are hopeless? 50/50 I'll give you, but hopeless? The thing about the Lions is that you just don't know what you're going to get from week to week. They always seem to win 1 or 2 games that they shouldn't and lose 4 or 5 that they should. We could very easily be 0-2 after week 2. I'd say our chance of going 0-16 are a lot better than going 8-8.
The first two games are key. First, you open up against the losingest team from last year. Next, you play your first game at home against a beatable Vikes team. Many people see a 2-0 start. Here's what I see. The Lions open up against Oakland on the road. We're 6-42 on the road the last 6 seasons. We got beat there last preseason. Numbers don't look good here. Next game against the Vikings at home. We've LOST 14 of the last 15 against the Vikings, including BOTH games last season. Not so good against them at our place recently. These first two games will determine our success or failure this season. I look for HISTORY to teach us a valuable lesson this season.........
A couple updates on former players: Charley Ane, a Pro Bowl offensive lineman for the Lions in the 1950s, died Wednesday in Honolulu of pneumonia after a long illness. He was 76. link: Area sports in brief: Ane, 76, helped Lions to two titles A hearing in the Detroit Lions' case for recovering almost US$10.2 million of a rookie signing bonus paid to Charles Rogers was postponed Wednesday. The hearing scheduled for Thursday in Detroit was indefinitely delayed, the Lions said. Rogers, a first-round draft choice in 2003, had his career cut short by injuries and drug problems. link: TSN : NFL - Canada's Sports Leader=
Whew! There's no telling what can happen from this: 'Mr. Irrelevant' Robinson agrees to contract with Lions - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
On Monday, the Lions made Redding the highest-paid defensive tackle in football. Redding, the team's franchise player in 2007, agreed to a seven-year, $49 million contract that included $16 million in guarantees, including $13 million in signing bonus and roster guarantees. Redding will receive a little more than $20 million over the first three years of his contract. Redding's agreement beat a 4 p.m. Monday deadline for franchise players. Had he not reached an agreement, Redding would have been forced to only accept a one-year deal with no chance of an extension until next season. Under those circumstances, Redding might have held out the entire training camp. link: ESPN - Lions make franchised Redding richest DT in NFL - NFL
I would have let this guy go. What did the 46 million contract to Shaun Rogers do for our win totals...............
Lions release Eddie Drummond Now he's gone. They are making the team over. Just watch the guy take a few back against Lions for a TD.
This is no surprise at all. I believe and extremely intelligent poster mentioned this in his last Lions post just the other day. To quote the great jammerdamus: http://www.pistonsforum.com/lions-football/7249-lions-preseason-2007-a-4.html#post108942
I was a big E.D. fan but when he couldn't get a new contract, the next season his game stank. Thanks for the memories E. D.
On a team which recently featured Mel Gray, I would have also said good-bye to E. D. ................He didn't do it for me.
