I can't see replacing Rip with a guy that is shorter than our point guard. Just can't see a future in that.

That's how the Pistons roll my friend.

    For instance:
Joe replaced Flip Saunders with a coach that was less qualified than the freaking TRAINER!

    (Mike Abdenour > Mike Curry)

Is it possible when people say Rip is on the block that he is just working on his post game?

No thanks to Gordon if Joe Johnson's on the market next year. He's a great scorer but, as many have alread pointed out, he's undersized and plays absolutely no D. Joe Johnson is the real deal at the SG spot. Plus, SG isn't the most important position, especially not for the Pistons.

Joe D is going to sign Ben G so since he will be our starting 2, Rip will just slide over to the 3 and Tay will play some 4. This will work out OK right?

Is it possible that at this point in Hot Rods career, he has more upside trade-wise than Rip Hamilton does? Do you think it's possible for Joe to be looking at a Vet PG and a C, signing Gordon and keeping Rip? I realize there are still gaps in the roster, blah blah...just a thought on this particular issue.

My guess is that for the money we'd be paying Gordon that Rip would be sent packing. We have too many other needs to be spending 20+ million for two guys that play the same position. I understand that Rip can play the 3 but only on a limited basis. We can't move forward with Rip as our primary 3 and Tay at the 4. Those guys would get pushed around by true 3s and 4s.

I agree. Why are we worried about the SG position? We need help up front. We have old men trying to hold it down. Getting 5 or 6 rebounds a game from your frontline is not going to win you many games. Also Ben Gordon is not worth 11 million. His shooting % is horrible and he is undersized for a 2 guard at 6 ft 3.

Well my thinking with the Stuck question was more along the lines of having a capable player to get us through these rebuilding years, and I think an Andre Miller/Mike Bibby and Bynum combo at the 1, and Gordon, Tay, and Rip rotation at the 2/3 would be the best bridge, rather than moving Rip, and waiting for Stuckeys jump shot to start falling. I do like Stuck...I'm merely tossing out ideas here. We cant forget about AA here as well, who would move even further back in the rotation were a true 1 to enter to picture, and Stuck and Gordon having to share minutes at the 2...I do believe AA is a capable 15 minute a game SF, and he showed great improvement last year. But how far can any of these young guys go with a bottom tier coach.

I call shenanigans. Gordon's agent just wants to up the ante. Gotta love the media.

So long as we get a really really big 5 to make up for the size difference. Well, Shaq's deal's up in '10. So....:stirthepot:

We need to address the SG position, because Rip doesn't fit with the offensive philosphy Joe and MC are trying to build. Rip is a good player if he has guys who can spread the floor and open up those cutting lanes (Billups, Sheed, McDyess). As the team stands now- any defense would have a field day with Rip- he is too predictable and doesn't have the skills and pure scoring ability to compensate. On another note putting the ball in Stuckey's hands and having him wait for Hamilton to come off a million screens isn't just predictable- it wastes Stuckey's talents as a creator.

So you bring in a SG like Ben Gordon thats a better fit and move Rip while he still has some value- quickly becoming a Micheal Finley or Jerry Stackhouse type role player.

Also, while Rip is a good spot up shooter. He doesn't take enough 3's, let alone contested 3's to be considered a good 3-pt shooter. So while his % is good- Ben Gordon is a whole lot better.

Pretty good answer. Rip's style did get us a championship, but if we are going to go another direction, then I agree that he might not be a good fit.

Sorry but I find Ben Gordon garbage compared to Rip, just my opinion. The SG position is not something we need to address at the moment.

    That is all.

We won that championship off of defense, everyone knows that. Our offense was pretty crappy.
