So what you're saying is that, your reaction to this news was:
    1. beating your head against a wall.
    2. drinking heavily (3 times the your normal amount)
    3. trying to relax by taking a hot bath.
    4. trying to sleep it off.
    5. waking up in a skeptical mood
    6. ...followed by denile.
    7. becoming VERY unhappy.
    8. becoming enraged.
    9. expressing your rage through inapproprate language.
    10. getting it together enough to attempt to post your feelings.
    11. losing it and destroying your computer in a fit of frustration.
    12. laughing so hard that you become unable to stay on any furniture.
    13. passing out due to frustration.

...man, you can really say it all with those smileys!

I have a feeling Curry's wardrobe consultant had some input on this.

    ehh, whatever.

Wish I cared enough to be enraged. Curry has made me apathetic.

The common assumption would probably be that Dyess scores a lot more than Amir.

If you normalize to Dyess's minute (24.9), then here is the comparison.

    Dyess/ Amir
    pts: 7.0/6.2 (+0.8)
    reb: 8.5/6.7 (+1.8)
    Ast: 1.0/0.4 (+0.6)
    Stl: 0.7/0.6 (+0.1)
    Blk: 0.5/1.6 (-0.9)
    FG%: .491/ .592 (-.101)
    FT%: .610/ .750 (-.140)

So, Dyess scores a little less than 1 point more for every 25 minutes played. In order to do so, he also misses about 2 extra shots.

The rebounding is about as expected, but I'm actually surprised their scoring rates are so similar.

Dyess passes better while Amir is a much more active shot blocker.

Dyess fouls much less, but Amir's on/court defensive numbers are much better.

Not a clear cut improvement IMO.

I wouldn't oppose this idea in theory because of Dyess. I like him and I like his game. But here are the guidelines that shape my position.

    1) Sheed and Dyess shouldn't play together b/c we need a garbage man on the floor at all times. These guys like to take jump shots.

    2) Maxiell and Amir shouldn't play together b/c it clogs the paint on offense. We have so many guards that like to slash now (Stuck/AI/WB), that we need some spreading of the floor.

    3) Sheed and Dyess are good on the defensive boards while Amir and Max are good on the offensive boards. Since there is only one ball in play, we would be maximum redundancy on one end of the floor and maximum futility at the other with the Sheed/Dyess pairing AND the Amir/Max pairing, just in opposite ways.
    4) Sheed and Dyess are expiring contracts and we're not going to win it all this year. So, why crowd out playing time for the young guys?

    5) Sheed and Dyess are old. If we're going to be at least competitive in the playoffs this year, then they need to have their minutes reduced.

I really like the combination with Amir starting, but I'd much rather see him get replaced with Maxiell than Dyess for the reasons mentioned above. Even Kwame would be a more acceptable change to me.

And the final point, MC has a very annoying habit of declaring things definitively and immediately contradicting himself.

Whether it's grading systems, starting lineups, time limits on SB, you name it. If you want to criticize MC 24/7, all you have to do is constantly ask why he's not doing what he said he was going to do.

If you look at the schedule coming up, you will understand why MC does not want to make a permanent lineup change that will look very bad over the next 15 games.

But if it doesn't work over the next 15 games how useful will it be in the playoffs, especially since the Pistons will most likely not enjoy a favorable seed like in past years?

One ciomment only. Wishy washy. Curry is announcing something he might do, 20 games from now, right after he stated Amir was starting the rest of the season. Wow. Just days ago. And next - move it up some? His word is rapidly becoming as void of meaning as Flip's became by his 3rd year here.

It probably won't work in either scenario.

We've spent a good chunk of the year playing lineups that MC has no intention of using in a playoff environment. Such a waste of time.

At least practice with what you know you're going to go with so you can work the kinks out.

Sounds a lot like a certain ex-coach's Fliposophy. Curry has figured he isn't going to achieve anything in the post-season so he is trying to pad his regular season win stats.

Mike Curry goes through starting line-ups like Vindaloo curry goes through human bowels.

I actually hadn't thought of that. It may actually be that he's pressing to make sure he gets us into the playoffs at all.

i.e. no more experimenting, time to go with the vets.

This is brilliant! Think of how much money the Pistons could save on travel costs with fewer players also.

I think Curry is just stirring the pot to distract the fans from the real problems with this team, no offensive cohesiveness. This current Piston's team is starting to remind me of the Rick Carlisle teams back in the day, so boring in the half court set with very few plays.

I just want something different and Dice is just so predictable and boring to watch, which is a good thing I guess but I want lock down defense and a more uptempo game. I'm sure Amir is getting ready to sit at the end of the bench with Kwame and compare splinter injuries if Dice moves into the starting line-up.

Surely with lots of teams looking to make trades the Pistons can offer up a premiere All-Star guard (AI) or a big stud center (Kwame Brown) or even a mercurial but talented power forward (Sheed) and get some players back that can mesh better with the team. Players high on my list are Chris Wilcox, Amare Stoudamire, Jeff Foster, Andre Nocioni, and Andre Miller.

hmmmm...hotel rooms and uniforms would add up to savings. They could rent a couple cabs instead of chartering a bus for ground transport. Do these guys get meal stipends on top of their contracts?

Roundball One is a big fixed cost and would be unnecessary, especially considering this is Detroit and congress doesn't think it should have private planes. BillD could sell it and fly our 5 guys coach.

We wouldn't save any money on equipment though. As is evidenced by FT shooting the Pistons only have one practice basketball.
