NBA to change All-Star ballot, eliminating center | NBA.com

It seems that the NBA is eliminating the CENTER position from the votes for the next All-Star Game...

Will that hurt Monroe chances to be in the All-star game this year or next?

It seems that you will have 3 spots for "frontcourt" players.. when you can put 3 centers, for example, Horford, Monroe, Bynum ... or three forwards, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Josh Smith ...

    What you all think?

Monroe won't be selected until we get a playoff spot

I agree. I don't think All-Star selections will be a concern this season. All we can really hope for is to see Drummond, Knight, and Stuckey in the Rookie/Sophomore game.

We also don't really want him to be an all star until after he is resigned. We want him to play like one, but don't need his agent to have the negotiating leverage.

He's prolly never gonna get in there by fan vote.
The vast majority of simple minded Sportcenter crazed fans don't really appreciate 7-footers that don't throw-down dunks on the regular. They can't appreciate the subtle nuances of a Greg Monroe reverse layup.

Interesting point which I had not thought of.

What do we reckon his re-sign value will be?

Would have to look at the last borderline all-star center to get a contract extension.

    Just a few comps:

    McGee- $10MM
    Lopez- $13.7MM
    Nene- $13.0MM

    I'd say between $11 and $13 Mill.

The all-star guys seem to by more like $15-17 Mill.

Not a very thorough sampling though.
