It's really not about him...he will never be fixed.
I think its about public perception.
Do you think the public wants a long...drawn out legal battle?
And all the while...he'll be sitting there smugly like he did with all his other lawsuits.
Punish him quickly...show the public you mean business...and then picket the heck out of his business.
Fans should even call the sponsors and let them know their dissatisfaction.

It is going to be real interesting what the league does tomorrow. Sterling has held his team longer than anyone else in the league. No other owner has denounced him and asking for him to be removed besides the Trailblazers owner. Everyone keeps saying Silver will do the right thing, but what is the right thing to do? I personally don't think the NBA has the guts to strip him of the team and start a long legal battle. I personally found Sterling's comments disgusting, but unfortunately many hold these views behind closed doors.

Fans won't need to call team sponsors...they will be running away by themselves.

No idea how the agreement between the NBA and the owners reads but I would think there would be a clause allowing them to remove an owner for conduct detrimental to the league. I would like to see the Clippers put up at auction to the highest bidder.

Lets be serious for a second. The guy is a racist and nobody should pay attention to the garbage that comes out of his mouth, but what do we honestly expect the NBA to do?

This question comes down to revenue and appearances. This actions tears them between the two
1 - There is unlikely to be a fall in revenue as a result of DSterling's actions
2 - The community outcry is huge

If people start boycotting games/merchandise (which they won't, lets face it), then maybe the choice is clear.

Pitiful to think that people wouldn't show up in droves to picket/boycott this guy.
I guess my generation thought differently. heck...we'd walk the picket line for hours...without a cell/smart phone.

Just force him to do a bunch of 'Donald Sterling Cares' snippets for the NBA to show during time out breaks.

The ultimate punishment would be force him to sit by his girlfriend and magic Johnson for the rest of their playoff run.

Jackson, needs to calm down and concentrate on his players' mind-set.
No sense from stepping down in the gutter with your bare feet and sweeping the after-effects.

Mark Cuban is wrong. Sterling should be kicked out of the league not because he was an "idiot", or because he made an indiscreet statement in private. The guy has a well-documented and public history of racist and discriminatory behavior. That's why the NBA should get rid of him.

Those are just the quick hits. This latest incident is the straw that broke the camel's back.

Here's a great article from ESPN's Lester Munson, who obtained a copy of the NBA's secretive constitution over the weekend and discovered that the commissioner has much more authority in these types of matters than anybody previously thought. As it turns out, he's not just a puppet of the owners when it comes to gross misconduct.

Interesting. That's a lot of leeway. I'd vote for any and all options other than taking away draft picks. I've never understood why hurting the quality of the team is an appropriate punishment. It only hurts the fans.

If they don't get rid of Sterling (which would be a travesty in my book), they at the minimum need to allow their players to opt-out of their contracts after this season. Doc Rivers has already suggested that he probably wouldn't return next year.
