NBA Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo to Pistons might make sense - Detroit Bad Boys
This won't make you many friends, but it is the right move. Again, you are right in emphasizing the fast paced offense the Pistons need as a system motif. The wonder of this question mark is how capable Cheeks is in this direction and how they set up the FA and S/T aspects, via the ever conservative JD.
Whoa! Is there actually some creative and might I add, some (wink, wink) strategy going on here?
No it doesn't! Boston is under siege: from Rivers, that tall guy and Pierce. "Gee", comments Ainge, "lets make this a total Animal House".
Why not just draft Burke and then immediately trade him for Zeller plus cash/pick/ etc?
Agreed. Just take the best available player and see what happens...

Why go ass-back-wards. Don't play head games with these kids. Burke is not the best available athlete in the entire lottery. And why add on to multiple projects that haven taken years for us to understand that time and circumstance is not adding up (Stuckey/Knight) and now you want to add Burke?
Not meant to be a literal quote; but a situational response that finds one in, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge: the catching of breath from the rolling thunder of time and circumstance.
Sorry did I hear the echoes of people whining about Korver's defense. Monta 'Have it all' Ellis is literally the last person I would elect to have on my team without a gun to my head. He isn't just a shoot first guard, he is a shoot everything guard. He will throw passes at the hoop if he is inbounding. On defense? He is just thinking about all the sweet 20ft pullups he will take when he gets the ball back. Yeah he doesn't really play defense. He isn't undersized, but just doesn't really care. Has a TS% under 50% but a usage rate over 25%. I don't want to pay a guard $12 million dollars a year to get roughly 1 point per possession on a quarter of the teams plays. Here are some lovely quotes from Hollinger "he ... doesn't seem to understand that a contested 20-footer off the dribble is a bad idea if there's still 18 on the shot clock. " "has become something of a poor man's Carmelo Anthony -- a high scorer but one with middling efficiency and little defensive value. " "Ellis has a size disadvantage and short arms, but he also over-gambles and under-tries. " Oh wait, you think you are going to get a discount on Ellis. $10m a year? Ha. He will be demanding a minimum of $15m a year. He didn't opt out just because he doesn't like the Bucks, he also wants the dollars.
You stopped reading before the "and then immediately trade him for Zeller".
Oh, I caught that. It just makes things too complicated and it won't happen with JD.
The case against Iggy. NBA Free Agent Rumors: Pistons should avoid Andre Iguodala at any cost - Detroit Bad Boys
We should avoid everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Without touching all the other stuff I do not think Ellis is a lost cause on D. I lived in San Francisco when he first started playing for GS and he played some D his rookie year. This may be Walter Herrrrrrrman redux, but I remember him giving Tony Parker fits with his quickness. It is there. I don't want to sign him as a FA, but this dude has the size and athleticism to be a monster as a shoot first point. Maybe he can't play there, but he'd be a great outside the box fit with Monroe and Drummond if he could. Fill out the roster with a couple of DTA's (defense, 3's and athletes) and we got a team. I doubt Mo Cheeks is the guy to pull this all off anyway.
That sort of convinced me actually.
Monta is only 27 years old.
Cody Zeller? I love it. When you can take a mediocre player at a position with the least need, you can't pass up.
The draft is next Thursday. It seems like it is taking forever. The only good thing about Washington leap-frogging us in the 1st round is that we move up from #38 to #37 in the 2nd round. There might be a decent player there. Combine that guy with our #56 pick and it will surely give lee356 a couple hundred thousand more rotation possibilities.
I'm also very excited about his seeming "lack of heart" and tendency to disappear in big moments!
