ESPN - No flip-flop in Detroit: Pistons stick with Saunders - NBA
Is he being intentionally obtuse or is he actually an overrated GM?
It all depends on how you look at it. There is only one team in the league that managed to achieve more in the past 5 years. At the same time Pistons could've achieved more, their draft picks are, at best, came out average, and there is no clear leadership in the organization (other than moody Davidson).
No one is suggesting a fire sale, Joe. Just some changes to reduce the chances of another playoff flame-out.
Also, what I have noticed is that for some reason Joe always sounds very defensive about the team and the organization. It's like he is insecure for some reason. Looks a little strange to me.
I'm serious about him being intentionally obtuse. It's obvious that Sheed and Flip cannot co-exist. I love Sheed but I am willing to see him go if it means Saunders goes with him. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Sounds like status quo at the Palace. Kids will sit. Same ol' Roster. Same ol' Coach.
I always think back to when folks at the News forum had a chance to send in questions to Joe Dumars. He ended up answering many of our questions with double talk BS (obtuse?) answers that were really an insult to anyone who asked a question. I think he just isn't going to say anything credible that would tip his hand one way or another.
^ I agree. It's like doing this over and over again. Who likes to do that? Joe D is on drugs . . . or he was never that good in the 1st place.
BRING BACK DARKO!
I can't understand how Dumars could watch this team against Cleveland and decide not to make drastic changes. The Eastern Conference is so bad this year that it's absurd that we didn't make the finals, especially if Joe considers the Pistons to be contenders. Edit: I still have some faith in Joe, but it has been a while since any of his moves impressed me.
Nothing to see here... Move along kids. It's not like Joe is going to tell us anything Earth shattering... Can't blame him one bit.
Joe has lost his damn mind.
It's maddening. I don't see how he could see the way the Spurs are just dominating the Cavs either and think everythings OK. Mediocre team; 50 wins or so; save money; who gives a $%# about winning? That seems to be our new philosphy.
This quote bothers me. Wallace and Saunders have struggled to coexist the past two seasons. If that persists, Dumars insists he will not let that lead to the unraveling of the team. "If we can't get it done, I'll make changes," Dumars said. "I wouldn't blink an eye about it." I am afraid that change would be Sheed and not Flip. This team is going to be weak next season.
It does seem as if two long years would perhaps be enough to suggest that the team already has unraveled.
I know. "If we can't get it done I will make changes". The team has not been able to get it done the past 2 seasons. Next season this team will look primed for a run to the Finals just like the last 2 years, but will unravel in the playoffs.
No, you're right Joe. But there are plenty of other reasons why Flip has done a bad job. Just because we have gotten to the Conference Finals doesn't mean that Flip has done a good job either. Each year I'm leaning more and more toward overrated. Sometimes its more about HOW you play rather than WHERE you play. To an outsider 5 straight ECF appearances looks pretty impressive, but when you watch the team every day like we do, you see that this team could/should be doing so much more. Are we being unfair and unreasonable with our expectations as fans? I don't think so. I think that the team and organization is being to complacent and passive with theirs. Yup. Except for contract negotiations with CB. In that case, he'll just tell the entire world that he's willing to break the bank to keep him. Um... nice poker face Joe. Let me know how that works for you.
Danger Will ROBINSON...... Danger!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, there are a few other teams out there that might be pretty happy with five conference finals appearances in a row. I suspect Joe could find a job if he needed one.
