I think the next couple of years may define Joe as a GM. We'll have to see what changes he makes before the next season starts. We'll see who he drafts and how that all plays out. As we say in America - "Talk is cheap". Lets see what actually happens.

Maybe Bill D just really likes Flip personally.

Or maybe Joe is thinking about a rebuild and it would be stupid to waste money on a buyout.

Or maybe they are all delusional and they think that Flip is a great coach.

Or Davidson's "tired of paying coaches not to coach" is more mandate than suggestion.

That is my thinking. BillD might have Joe's hands tied and he is speaking obtusely because he has no choice.

In any case, now that it's 'official', our window of opportunity HAS shrunk to a peephole.

If it is true, we could never evaluate how good or bad Joe D. is as a manager. Also, we have to consider that Bill D. has input in the roster moves as well.

I have no doubt BillD has a major impact on roster moves...he writes the checks. But I don't blame him for the Pistons losing Ben last year. I think Ben would have stayed here for less if it weren't for Flip.

And if Sheed didn't like his teammates so much, I think he'd be asking for a trade because of Flip.

If it is a given that Saunders is coming back, then I guess I'm in favor of a rebuild.

If we manage to re-sign CB and get an instantly productive back-up for him in the draft...I vote not to rebuild. Flip will seal his doom next year. At that point, CB, Rip & Tay will still be here...and just maybe, that would coax Sheed to re-sign next summer.

Too bad it's not going to happen.

Joe sounds like he's unwilling to take two (or three) steps back in order to eventually wind up ahead in 4 years.

Mediocrity seems to be the lowest point he wants to reach, and unfortunately, every team that is competing acquired one or more stars during a somewhat less than mediocre period.

    Miami
    Chicago
    Utah
    Cleveland
    San Antonio
    Phoenix
    Dallas

I can't believe we are about to be a middle of the road team that has a middle of the road year and can only sign middle of the road players and middle of the road draft picks only to get continously run over year in and year out by the NBA "Big Boys"...
Because, of course, we are standing in the middle of the darned road!

I wouldn't paint the picture quite this bleak. However, it could be not far from the truth, of course pending the outcome of the offseason activity and draft.

I hope you guys knew this was coming. I could see it a mile away and totally forgot he was going to give us a "State of the Pistons Nation" address today.

Dumars is a good man. Make no mistake about it, but he's first and foremost a company man.

He isn't going to say anything, and why should he? He can only make our players lose their trade value by pulling a "We gotta dump Artest NOW" move. Whether or not he has something brewing...who the heck knows????

I don't think Flip and Sheed can coexist though and Flip is still comfy cozy. Figure it out.

Joe today said that it is his job to make sure that Flip and Sheed to co-exist. He said it is his job to pull Sheed back when he's stepping over the line. Seems like Sheed does respect Joe a lot more than Flip.

    That's a start.
Sheed needs to keep his nose clean.

Most teams would not have fired Flip given the same situation. We have become used to seeing coaches get fired around here for less reasons than Flip so its natural to expect that now.

Perhaps they have a different set of criteria for keeping a head coach like sucking up to Davison and whatnot.

When you post, there is a smilie list on the right hand side of the page. At the bottom is a MORE button. We have lots of smilies, courtesy of Slippy's Smilie Emporium and Internet Web Stuff.

I know where the smilies are on this side. :) I was wondering where did you get this particular one to put on the website because the letters are Russian. Ky-Ky is Russian for coo-coo.
