Free-agent time likely to be slow for Pistons

I read this as Joe is going cheap again.

Pessimistic? Realistically, all those Brands, Diops, etc, are out of reach for midlevel. Rest of bunch are like "Arvis"( few exceptions, of course).

At this time dumars has probably analyzed FA market and knows how things are.

Agreed, he promised breaking the core, but it seems like he won't. Maybe he's hoping Curry will make the team hungry again. :stirthepot:

I took this as Joe probably will make a blockbuster trade which I think will happen soon after the clock strikes midnight. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

How about Pietrus, Posey, Ricky Davis? The FA is weak, but I want Joe to go after the best available player w/o a pre-conceived decision on how much he is worth. Need to crack a few eggs to make an omlette. Getting a good bench player is important in addition to a good trade.

Would signing a crappy FA this season handicap our efforts next year when better talent is available? If we keep sheed, his 14 mil comes off the books. We could have a shot at some decent 2nd tier FA's

Agreed, but most of good players demand more than mid level - Antawan Jamis on just got signed 4y50mil.

In what universe is Diop considered a big name on the FA market?

I'd say that if the core stays intact, Joe did NOT get what he wanted out of them in value.

I`d say if the core stays intact we are in for a very dissapointing season, again.

That article was depressing. Trying to read between the lines:

    1. Joe is blaming everything on the bench again, not bothering to resign anyone except the aged (see #2).
    2. Joe still believes in playing old fading vets
    3. Joe thinks some team is going to give him a superstar like Memphis did to LA.
    4. We'll probably sign a bunch of guys off of waivers again.

In a height challenged league. Or the talent to go along with it.

If that happened it would be very dissapointing. But the main FA and thus trade period begins tomorrow on July 1.

I'd like to see us get Brand and / or Maggette for the right price. The Clippers need a point guard so give them Billups. That is unless BDavis and Arenas milk them first.

    Brand opted out!

    Yes.

Joe, at least bring him in and see if he wants to play for us. If he does, then gravy. But if he doesn't show him the door and find another Walter Sharpe.

He played just 8 games last season after an Achilles tendon rupture, make him see that. Here he has a chance to win.

Damn, Sheed and Brand on the frontline are giving me championship visions.
