It's what I would do. Strategically, trading a pawn for your opponent's rook is a great move.

Full balance means the difference between face amount and what the Nuggs paid? So, anyone could have grabbed him for 2 years for $6M and he would have had no choice, right? Seems like a team like Boston should have done that.

I have no idea if they have room, but wouldn't it make sense for Orlando to go after him? It would allow them to go bigger for once.

Yes, whatever Dice's existing deal signed with the Pistons is, is what the team making a waiver claim would be responsible for. That contract only becomes null after he clears waivers, in which case, his current team (DEN) would be responsible for it. That's why no one goes on waivers until a buyout is agreed. Once he clears, he gets his full contract unless there is an agreement in place.

    NBA Salary Cap FAQ

Boston could grab him for his existing deal, except that they are capped out. You need to be at least $6 million under the cap (not the luxury tax threshold) in order to add that salary.

    NBA Salary Cap FAQ

Looks like only Memphis would have enough room to add him.

To clarify something I think some people are still unsure about,

That's 30 days after waivers. What is concerning about this, is that during those 30 days, Dice might receive a lot of phone calls. It's not tampering when you're a free agent.

Can we talk to him during this period?

I would assume so, but don't quote me on that.

Everyone talks regardless, they do it through agents. But you could potentially have out and out lobbying by players like Pierce, KG directly to Dice. And not just those guys. Nash/Shaq. Pop/Timmy.

    Isn't Dice a Georgia guy?

Has Dyess cleaned out his locker?

At least AI didn't take his number.

It's bothering me as well. Especially if he's watching us struggle to win without CBill.

Curry should probably drive for wins over the next 30 days to woo Dyess back (vs. the development strategy, which he could resume after we're whole again). Put a hold on the life lessons for a while. That stuff like "if your man keeps beating you, you'll just have to get better" is what I'm talking about. Nobody is going to get that much better on defense in the short-run.

If we do get Dyess back, even a better trade on our part.

LOL. I'm with Tashawn. WIN NOW! Get Dice back semi j/k. Dyess if you're reading this, when i said were slow and not very good defensively in those 1 (2) ? games, i did it out of love because i only want you to be the best you can be, and i know you can be so much better! :violin:

(besides who's going to be rebound?!)

    edited to add;

Some (maybe)good news; at least i think so. The wording is strange in the part about TOR, The "recent years" thing throws me off. Does it mean we tried to trade him to TO? Also the end sucks, but probably spin.

McDyess seems headed for U-turn - The Boston Globe

    Boston Globe is horrible!

    What the heck is this?

Do they expect KG trades to happen everything they need to win? :granade:

That would not be a good outcome. Giving a veteran/ big man/ character guy/ rebounder/ great jump shooter to our main competitor would officially mean that we threw in the towel this year.

If Dyess is about the money, he would have stayed in Denver. If he's about the ring with no shame, he'll go to Boston. If he's about loyalty and has an understanding with Joe, then he'll come back to Detroit.

To say it again though, what scares me is that he was planning on coming back, but may decide that we don't have a real shot at the title this year if we don't look solid in 30 days. Maybe he'll start looking out for himself at that point and consider other options... maybe even with Joe's blessing if JD sees that AI isn't the answer.

If McDyess comes back, Joe will promise not to trade him again this season.

I bet at least one forum poster is thinking that McDyess ("slowest defender in the NBA, doesn't post up on offense, etc.") going to the Celtics would give the Pistons a great advantage over Boston.
