Not yet but he's breathing heavy. Now that those two obscure jokes are out of the way, an excerpt from today's Detroit Free Press:
I think if Zaret is that excited about the job then he is welcome to it. Maybe a little 3 Dog Night intro music for him would be in order?
Eli.. Wow that's a name from the past! While we're at it... Is Bernie Smilovich ( I think that's right) still a broadcaster in the Detroit area? I remember watching Bernie's Bloopers 10+ years ago.
Good to have Eli back involved in the local sports scene. I miss the Locker Room radio show he used to do with Gary Danielson (and Kirk Gibson). They brought a thoughtful maturity and professionalism to the local sports talk environment that I've missed since they've been gone. The superficiality, hot air, and lewdness that is prevalent on both stations disappoints me - but I guess that's what sells advertising. Disappointing indictment really, but that's a different topic.
yeah but he got one of those laser eye surgeries, i believe for free because he pushes them in commercials ;D
I used to really enjoy Eli. If I remember correctly, he was on WKBD channel 50 and the Detroit area loved the guy. Then he wanted to leave to get some big contract to do sports in New York. They didn't like him there so he came back to Detroit maybe a year or so later. Personally, I was really happy to see him return, but the majority of Detroiters were totally miffed that he left them for New York and he lost the majority of his following. So he didn't last long and went somewhere else. Do you guys see a little parrallel with this story to something that happened recently with the Pistons? Relax Darko and Darko fans... Larry won't be back of course. Will he? (J/K).
Eli & Denny Eli had a show with Denny McClain for a while. They used to tape it in the bar in the Sheraton at 12 Oaks. It was a hoot. I believe it was up and running right before the last time McClain got nailed for illegally using the retirement monies from a slaughter house he bought. Early 90's I think. Anybody else remember the show?
Eli & Denny Sure I remember the show. I also remember that Eli was the studio host for the Tigers and sports anchor at WDIV back in the early 80's - thru '84 World Series, I think. When he left for New York, the station brought in a somewhat clumsy Bernie Smilovitz to take his place.
