In reviewing the Espn analysts predictions, six of the 10 state that the Pistons will finish #1 in the east and 4 state it will be the Cavs. I guess even though they all loved the fact that Shaq and Wade won the title last year, they all knew it was a fluke, and most have the old Heat finishing about third with Nets behind them and then the Bulls at an average of 5th.

Only John Hollinger thought less of the Pistons selecting them as the fifth best best team in the east behind Cavs, Heat Bulls, and CELTICS.

Hollinger always underrates the Pistons because they don't fit into his statistical analysis engine very well. He predicts disaster for us every season.

He may be right this year, but it's more of a broken clock thing than a great analysis thing.

He's so astute he still thinks we've been injury free for several years.

We won against a great Indy team with an injured Sheed. It hasn't been a walk in the park for this team.

The only way the Pistons get into 5th is by losing out to the Cavs, Heat, Bulls, and Nets. Celtics won't even make the playoffs.

I don't care about that. If we're #1 in the East when June rolls by I wouldn't mind that.

    Nice little art.

    Hollinger

My pessimism is based on the premise that they would have dropped off even if Big Ben had stayed. I don't expect Chauncey Billups to play as well based on the "Fluke Rule," and maybe they'll even have an injury this year.

Anybody know about this "Fluke Rule"?

    I dug this up...
The PER is Hollinger's goofy player efficiency rating. Basically, if you're a vet and you have a really good year, you're probably too old for the improvement to be lasting. When you go back to normal the next year you will be overrated and probably overpaid.

As much as Hollinger is a tool, sports is full of characters just like that -- guys who finally put it together in an obnoxiously successful way and never manage to again.

If CB was 35 or so, yeah. But he's maybe 31?

But maybe Flip's offense is gonna be scouted better this year, and maybe Chauncey's gonna be a bigger priority for opposing defenses, and maybe now that people know he can't go around Anderson Varajeo...
