Yeah...the whistles were called to support dashboard jesus and his disciples. But the Pistons were out of synch, frustrated, and flat-out looked pathetic through the entire series. The team squabbling & dissension over the last few games makes my point for me. I see it as an extension of last year when the face of the franchise got run out of town. Say what you will about Ben being a malcontent...I felt how pissed he was about Saunders leadership. There will definitely be significant roster changes this summer. But Flip can't be allowed to stay here another year. JoeD knows this. "NEXT!" GO SPURS!!!
I agree that there should be accountability at the coaching level. But I'd also like everyone to remember that at least 7 or 8 layups were wussed out on and missed even before the 4th quarter tonight, and I don't see how to blame that on the coach.
It's destiny for him to leave. Two and out, that's the Franchise's motto when it comes to coaches. Of the seven head coaches that have come and gone since Daly, only two, Doug Collins and Alvin Gentry, have lasted longer than two years. They both lasted a whopping 3 seasons.
Granted...the players have to play. But I don't see Flip as having encouraged any of them on a team level.
Yeah, team. I think we're probably on the same page here. I just don't want people thinking that replacing Flip Sr. with a tougher coach is going to be enough to solve all the problems in and of itself.
Terry Porter may be nice, just hope he didn't pick up Flip's concepts. My personal choice is Laimbeer though
I don't think tougher is the only quality. Someone who has conistent rotation patterns where everbody knows what their role is would help. Someone who can take the timeout and draw up an effective play.
They are doggin Sheed on NBA TV. He punked his team two years in a row. If Flip stays, Sheed is gone!!!
I had my reservations about Billy, but now I'm sold. I'm sick and tired of watching these guys play soft out there. Killed on the boards when it counts, giving up countless layups and uncontested shots..... Whatever Joe needs to do, I trust him to make this right.
I wouldn't mind if both Sheed and Flip left. As for Laimbeer, I've always liked the idea of him coaching the team.
I'm definitely on the Laimbeer page...I was hoping for him right after LB got canned. But I think Joe has issues with Bill that aren't open to the public.
I dont blame sheed for the tech. The refs were calling fouls everytime the cavs stepped over the three point line.
Joe better have issues with this team right now. It should supercede any issues he has with Bill for the betterment of the team.
Agree wholeheartedly. Flip is average at best in most aspects of coaching. In addition to what you have mentioned, he has not had the Pistons playing as a team the way they did under Larry Brown. He does not manage players as well as Brown and other great coaches do. And, as was plainly demonstrated in this series, his ability to make defensive adjustments within a game or within a series is probably below average. I just don't see in Flip the kind of intelligence and understanding of the game that is so evident in coaches like Brown, Popovich and Riley. Flip's shortcomings become particularly conspicuous during the playoffs because the game is played at such a higher level.
I don't think he has personal issues with Laimbeer (just a hunch), but I think maybe he isn't sure he can coach in the NBA. He's got a pretty abrasive personality that might bruise these baby egos. I'd like to see him get a chance, I like his straightforward approach, but I doubt we'll see it. In fact, I highly suspect Flip will remain the Pistons coach next year.
Bill's been snubbed a number of times in the last few years for an assistant position. I seriously doubt Davidson made him off-limits to the Pistons because he thought Laimbeer was too important to the Shock. Apparently it pissed off Laimbeer enough that he stopped doing color for Piston games.
