I wouldn't have expected those two guys' stats to be so close. I looked at MPG and the variance isn't that severe (GM - 32, TD - 28). The fact that Cleveland was able to fleece Memphis should not be lost on Joe. He's talked about maintaining cap flexibility, and needs to keep in mind that Denver, Brooklyn, and Golden State are just a few teams that are going to be over the luxury threshold next year and may be looking to unload contracts and package picks with them (similar to how Detroit had to get rid of Gordon). I would have traded Middleton in a heartbeat for Speights, Ellington, Selby, and a 1st (sorry, Lee).
