David Stern will live up to his name on this one. NBA - Where caring happens (except where Stern is involved)
Very cleaver rax... or we could have Arnie plant steroids/crack in the elixir. This is more about setting a precedent on guns vs what Gilbert actually did (unloaded guns on the table)... for every dictator there has to be a victim.... yes Stern is a dictator... ever hear about him having a meeting of the minds (other than CBA negotiations)?
Stern works for the owners. He is the representative of the dictators. Stern didn't suspend Arenas because he brought guns to the locker room (although he would have as soon as the police investigation was concluded). He suspended him because Arenas was acting like an idiot. Cracking jokes at every turn, shooting pistol signs at teammates on court during games, running his mouth at every opportunity - Gilbert had clearly lost his head and needed to be shut down before his behavior started hurting the brand.
I can accept this logic... kinda like making an example of the class clown... True he created his destiny... however if the Wiz are allowed to void his contract this would be much more than fair and equal punishment.
Well, he'll tweet no more. (source) He actually may face jail time because of this: and, let the knee jerk reactions begin: All bets are off: Nets ban gambling on team plane - NBA - Yahoo! I don't know where you are employed, but if a co-worker brought a bunch of guns into work and pointed one at you and/or threatened to shoot you with it (as alleged in the Arenas case), what would you want the company to do to that person?
Both Crittenton and Arenas are in serious trouble. Don't know the details, but after a quick search on google it seems like it is illegal to carry guns within the city limits of DC. You can own guns, but you must keep them at home. What these guys did is a felony. Arenas will be charged with 4x whatever the crime is since there were four guns. Crittenton once, but his penalty might be more if the rumors that he actually loaded and cocked the gun are true. There are also gun-free zones where you cannot have a gun no matter what. Because the stadium is within 1000 ft of a daycare, it is a gun free zone. In gun free zones the penalties of violating these laws are doubled. Depending on how the lawyers spin this, they may just pay a few thousand fine and be done with it, but it is possible that these guys can go to jail. Certain types of bullets have a 1-year minimum mandatory sentence too. Hmm, so how do you get the guns home from the gun shop in the first place without committing a crime?
I think guns are great. I don't own any, but when I move to the country, I will. Hard to defend your family if the police are 25 minutes away and someone breaks into your house. The bad guys don't follow gun laws, but victims usually do. :(
Re: Gibert Arenas Charged with a Felony Gilbert Arenas charged with felony gun possession - thestar.com
Re: Gibert Arenas Charged with a Felony The Sports channel that I listen to during drive time said that Arenas may be in posession of hundreds of guns. Kinda makes him a folk hero in Montana. Be interesting to see what the commish has to say, and how his punishment compares to that of Ron Artest.
Re: Gibert Arenas Charged with a Felony Well if he goes to jail for 5 years, Stern won't have to give out any punishment other than barring him for life from working for an NBA team as player or coach or ball boy....He could be pushing 34 years old if he was to actually get the full five years and those BB skills would only be suited for overseas work or the Washington Generals if he wants to stay close to home when he gets released.
Now I hear that he reached a plea agreement and will probably serve no time...so it is up to Stern to make a move now...which means that Arenas still may have to play with the Generals or the Trotters to keep his skills up..and get paid.
I'm having a Rodman flashback. Didn't they catch him sleeping in his truck with a loaded shotgun in the Silverdome parking lot? I don't recall Stern getting involved in that one.
Mr. D may have stepped in and told Stern to backoff because the only person Rodman was threatening was himself. No Rebound - NYTimes.com
