Re: ESPN Reports Gordon AND Villanueva sign

    No sorry it's not it:
    • 1st year og BG's 5/$55M = 9.1Million
    • 1st year of CV's 5/$35M = 6 Million
    • That adds up to roughly $15 million, we had $18.5 Million, that leaves us roughly $3.5 Million.
    • We JUST realeased Oberto, he was guaranteed $1.8M of his $3.5M, the release JUST freed up an additional $1.7M
    • $3.5M + $1.7M = $5.2Million, give or take a few hundred G's.
As Cloud pointed out that extra $$$$$ is goging to come in handy, it'll give us major trade flexibility.

DISCLAIMER: I know this is very unpopular.......BUT.....
Tay+Rip for T-mac...Yeah I said it!!!! Gives us another $20Million of cap room for 2010!!!!!

Does anybody have a link to what the contracts start at?

With 8% raises I have Gordon at only $9 million or so to start.

Villanueva's starting point is about $6-6.5 million.

Ah, thanks for clearing it up KGREG. As other have said, I would hate to play a game of chess with Joe Dumars.

MJ is rolling in his bed (not grave).

I hope these two new Pistons are better than the AI experiment. Nice to see Joe D doing something productive during off season rather than waiting two games into the season to pull the trigger.

Hang onto your but cheeks - Dumar's brought in the 1st 2 pieces and we are up for a huge trade.

I love Rip but its time to move on. There are things that go beyond the stats like a desire to win, a good attitude, upside, easy to coach, and a respect for one's team and teammates.

The old core had a good run but its over.

I am very excited about Villanueva. 3 years in and he is only going to get better. People laughed when I said Ben Wallace was going to be an all-star.

When exactly did you say that Max? When he was still with Orlando? That would have been impressive. :)

Max, I sure hope you are correct on this one, because that means that we'd be getting Boozer-like production for 1/2 price. That would make many people happy.

CV for this deal is a freaking steal. A steal. If he continues his trend as he comes into his prime, 3 or 4 years from now, we will be talking about how underpaid he is.

The Gordon deal seems excessive, but the CV deal, wow. Very cheap. Joe really pulled a rabbit out of the hat on that one.

Also, thanks Slippy for droving! :D

Joe should thank the market for getting CV on the cheap side. He really didn't have much competition. Also, maybe getting CV for that money allowed him to add a couple of extra mil on top of Gordon's contract to make him forget Chicago.

Yes, I'm really happy how cheap CV came out to be, but the 55 mil contract for Ben Gordon is the thing that makes me feel uneasy. Another SG. Uggh.

During his 1st year here. Sorry - no forums back then. I did write an Orlando Sentinel Reporter about that and I think he thought I was some kind of huge homer Piston fan or something.

Anyone else see what I saw back in the early days? Hoping for the same in our new guys. More importantly hoping that Dumars saw the same thing now.

I wonder what Dumars promised Gordon besides money. Did he tell him he'll definitely start? He hasn't traded Rip yet. I hope he has a deal in the works.

I worry about Gordon's ball-hogging. We might have another Stackhouse on our hands.

Gordon will come in and assume he is the first option on this team. I'm a little worried.

    CV + BG = Porous D

Gazoo, I just remembered, you are our UCONN guy.

What do you think of these two cats? You've seen them up close.

nice signings, really nice. If Gordon turns out to become more of a team player and show some D, this could become a great team.
I still wonder what trade JoeD has in the making... this team desperately needs a C that bangs down low, blocks and gets boards no matter what since CV won't do that - but these C's are pretty rare these days..

If Villanueva paid any attention to Calhoun, he should know how to play some D. I think these guys think honing their offensive games is the way to get a bigger paycheck in the Association and the way the media plays up offensive stats, they might be right.

Gordon was at UConn before I got here so I didn't see him in college at all. I liked CV at UConn, but I never thought he was a complete player. I always liked his rebounding, but I didn't think he hung around in the paint very much on the offensive end. And to me, he isn't really a 4. The guy won't mix it up. He only goes to the ft line about three times a game. Compare that with Karl Malone -- a true 4 -- who went to the stripe 9 times a game for his career on average.

Basically, Joe signed two outside shooters. For forumites pissed off about our lack of activity in the paint, I don't see how these two signings help there at all.
