Off of the top of my head, all I could come up with was:

    Ron Murray?
    Juan Dixon?
I guess Memo was an All-Star last year but...

All in all, I don't think that we've been burned too bad by ex-Pistons.
It's not like Primoz Brezec went on to become a 20-10 guy and get a shoe named after him.

Do we anoint him king of the regular season now or later?

The reason that we haven't been burned much by former players is because we hung on to our core while we ditched bench players for the most part.

Grant Hill was the most likely candidate to haunt us, but he went into the injury abyss.

Ben Wallace was the next best candidate, but he isn't a guy who shows up on the stat sheet and he declined pretty rapidly due to his high mileage.

    I don't care about a stat sheet.

The guy can John Salley us for all I care.

Even by those standards...not one guy has made us pay by getting their ring with another team.

No one has come back to say, "see, I was better that you thought I was, I just won a championship and screw you, Joe Dumars"

    Nobody.

so joe has just been lucky to know when to hold on to players and when to part with them?

seems he might hold on to a player a year to long here or there but really hasn't given up on a player that has turned out to be one we all cry about not having anymore (minus a few die hard fans for that player). We will see if Amir is another one of this long list, or he'll come back to bite us.

It's like us fans have Stockholm syndrome.

Despite evidence to the contrary, we're so much in love with our own players that they appear far better than any other possible players that could replace them.

No one that has seen the rampant perimeter penetration of the last few years should tout our current perimeter players as "defensive" anything, much less talk about who they can, or have, "D'd up."

Our defensive team went out the window in '05, when one of the era's ultimate mistake fixers left town.

You took that waaaaaaay too seriously...I was not commenting on any ex-pistons keeping us from the Larry O'brien Trophy promised land...I guess I should have made that comment in a mostly joking thread....

Please accept my sincerest apology on be half of myself, Joe Smith, Chauncey Billups, Ronald Dupree, Raphael Addision, and the San Diego Chicken.

    It will not happen again.

Oh, I'm not exactly taking this too seriously either brother.

I'm not going to go all "bball jay" on you anytime soon. :)
These cats we are talking about aren't even Pistons yet. :pound:

I always worry about ex-Pistons coming back to haunt us. I was sure that Anthony Goldwire would come back for revenge with another team.

Dwyane Wade can sort of say that.

    Well....sort of.

But if we would have drafted him he probably wouldn't have won anything yet and there goes 2004.

I'm still semi-convinced that Darko was a side deal that got us that 'Ship.

    Apparently not.

"How's your boy Ben?" was a Low blow.

    Pun intended.

But I thought the response was deservedly salty. :)

It is possible that we didn't need any more youth that year and having Darko (Wade, Melo, etc) stay out of the mix was helpful.

    Quite possibly.

I'm still calling "side deal" though.
