He'll stay. We may be a smaller market team but we have a solid tradition, plus Greg nor his game a very flashy or appealing to the larger markets.

Boston won without a shot blocker, Tim Duncan isn't a shot blocker, heck the Lakers won with an INJURED Bynum. Seriously, look at the stats most blocked shots get recovered by the offensive team and they usually score because the defense is out of position, it's a very misleading stat. I think The biggest thing to look for from your bigs in terms of defense is their pick and roll defense. Few teams have dominant bigs, and most teams run the high pick and roll to break defenses down, if you have a big who can switch and/or recover, you've struck gold!

It is true that shot blocking isn't strongly correlated with Championships, but I think that there is some relationship:
2011: Dallas (26th in blocks) *unusual in that they had the best shooting PF/C in history.
    2010: Lakers (11th)
    2009: Lakers (6th)
    2008: Boston (19th)
    2007: Spurs (9th)
    2006: Heat (10th)
    2005: Spurs (2nd)
    2004: Detroit (1st)

In 2004, we had 7.0 blocks per game vs. 3.4 currently.

5 out of the last 8 NBA Champions were in the top 10 of blocks with the Pistons and the Spurs being #1 and #2 in consecutive seasons. The teams that weren't in the top 10 had Dirk, Gasol, and KG, all likely Hall of Fame bigs who brought a tone of other attributes to make up for the low show blocking.

Detroit's winning percentage since 2003 seems extremely correlated with shot blocking (but that's because both winning and shot blocking are correlated with Sheed and Ben).

While many shot blocks are recovered by the other team, this is also one of those stats that doesn't fully show up in the box score because of the deterrent effect that it has on the other team.

I agree, it's a mistake to focus only on the block stat itself. Having a quality interior defender/s usually means countless altered shots, errant passes, long jumpshots, intimidated slashers and so forth. It's the intangibles/immeasurables/1 per centers that usually go a long way in determining a successful team.

If I was Joe, this is what would be keeping me up at night. Joe better add some pieces to help Monroe succeed or Greg will bolt for a more promising situation the first chance he gets.
...and I wouldn't blame him one bit.

I've thought about this as well and I think it's a good point. His inability to place his leg very high up on the wall actually enhances his durability.

Bill was a very smart defender. He also had dudes like Sally and Rodman who were amazing help defenders..

I don't think that we can really assume anything. Despite the recent win streak, the Pistons have one of the worst rosters and worst collection of bad contracts in the NBA. If I'm Greg Monroe and I'm being asked to re-sign after my rookie deal, I want to see some progress and a solid plan for improvement.

I need to be convinced that the Pistons offer me a chance to succeed that is as good as or better than I can get elsewhere.

It all depends on circumstances. Some guys leave for the money. Some leave for the fame it may bring.
Some leave for better championship possibilities. Some are just swayed easily. Some leave to please their wife's whims. Some actually move on simply for a better climate. We gotta know what GM is thinking.

Most WILL stay if their situation is good. Right now...the Pistons need to enhance their situation.

The thing I remember about Bill Laimbeer is he knew always where to position himself for the best opportunities. Even with Rodman on the team.......Bill always got his rebounds.

All time Piston leader's in AOTG (this is something Greg Monroe is not good at and they didn't keep stats in the Lambier era)

    Darko Milicic 2,385

    Sean Elliott 235

    Loy Vaught 171

    John Crotty 32

    Mikki Moore 6

That's an assist off the glass. Lee used to marvel at how good some of Darko's misses were and the idea was formed that Darko was intentionally missing to set up his teammates.

Really, Does anyone know? he was invited and he couldn't make it or something like that? He needs to rest his knees or something?

Wow - haven't seen him play at all, but huge rap for Anthony Davis to be named in the USA team squad.

Monroe has had one nice season. If he keeps improving like he did this past season, he will get his acclimades.

I am more surprised that they named two co-head coaches. That is just plain wrong and stupid.

I really don't want Greg Monroe hanging out with Carmelo Anthony all summer anyway.
This is a good thing and frees him up to attend Camp Stuckey in August.
