The fact that it's the same number leads me to believe that it's as arbitrary as some players' height measurements.

In the one year that he was there? His eyes were on the prize.

Keep in mind though, that Shawn Kemp was quite a physical specimen as well; furthermore, he didn't always have an affinity for illicit drugs.

Things can always happen. It's no real slam on Greg Oden, I'm just saying from what I saw, it appears to me that Oden might fall further than some in the conditioning department if he loses focus. It would happen more quickly as well.

It could be that the measurements were only taken 1.5 years apart and he has stayed in maximum shape throughout.

Here is an exerpt from ESPN when he was drafted:
He could be a freak. Curious to see if he can avoid injury and show his ability this year. Keep in mind that he had a broken right hand throughout his OSU career. Nobody has really seen the real GO yet.

No, it really couldn't. Not with the exact same number. Keep in mind that once you start dipping below that you're talking about bodybuilders on stage, near death because the level of water depletion combined with low bodyfat percentage simply isn't healthy and can't be maintained for much longer than the time it takes for them to be in the contest.

These men and women (bodybuilders) are professionals at this sort of thing, most often being assisted by diet "gurus" all in an attempt to get these athletes to be at a certain bodyfat percentage, among other things, at just the right time.

It doesn't happen often, they often fail, and that's why you have winners and losers in that sport. That's why I find it highly improbable that Greg Oden came in at "7.8%" both times. There's always going to be some sort of fluctuation. It's kind of like your weight. You don't just walk around weighing exactly the same morning, night, and every day of the week.

Statistically speaking, pounds and ounces, it is highly improbable that if you weighed yourself today, and then did it again today next year, you would weigh exactly the same.

    I think it's a made up number.

I feel the same way regarding Oden's age.

I got much respect for Oden's game and from what I've read, he's a VERY bright and intellectual (which I find refreshing for a blue-chip athlete).
...but there's no way that he's not in his mid-30's.

Dude prolly played AAU ball with Uncle Cliffy!

now Shaq hast become really, really fat - but for Oden, that guy's a beast. It's going to be fun to see him playing against Howard. These two are the future and if they get accompanied by solid players, they could devlop a true rivalry

There are ways to keep in shape, even if you are sitting out an NBA season. Does this look like something a fat 30 old would do? (the dancing part I mean).

On a serious note, consider the following about Oden's work ethic:
