Hey whats up guys, this my first post since my first couple a while back and hope to become a regular but anyway they were talking after the game on TNT about how the Hawks are if they wanna to progress as a team and advance farther in the playoffs that they would have to trade either Joe Johnson or Josh Smith and build around the other. If you had to choose one out of the two to go after in the offseason, who would you go after?

Josh Smith is a super-athletic big man......

Skilled 2-guards are easier to find.

Spending the last few years with Sheed however, makes me want to take Joe Johnson.

Josh Smith has the bball IQ of a moldy potato. He is a poor man's Ron Artest without the deadly right hook or the rap artist credentials.

I'll take Johnson, who is a better version of Michael Redd.

Joe Johnson. I don't think he is fit to be the franchise player parse, but he would be a good fit here and really give us a nice core of players to build around.

Smith, while insanely talented and athletic, is just a flat out dumb basketball player, with the basketball IQ of a turnip. Not sure if he'll ever really tap into his "potential".

What sort of package could we offer?

Rip, Amir, & #15 pick for JJ? Idk that seems like not enough.

You might mean...an over valued hot-dog.

Now, let us take Outlaw. Another head case, but of different order. He needs a mentor and a mature coach. He has a case load of tools. You have to reach a guy like this with small steps because development has to be internally expanded.

    Smith is all playground.

Will the Cavs sweep Celtics or the Magic?

    Anyone?

I don't see a sweep. Those two teams are good enough to win 1 or 2 games at home.

Regardless, the Cavs path to the finals couldn't be any more clear. Orlando is soft/mentally weak as a roll of Charmin and Boston is missing it's best player.

    Garnett > Pierce

Pierce is the go to scorer in close games... but KG is the anchor of Boston's defense which is the staple of their team. The Celtics give up about 10 more points per game without Garnett than they do with him. His impact on a game cannot be measured by statistics alone, but that is pretty significant by itself.

What about Al Horford? The more I see him play, the more upside I've noticed. He's still very young, got a big body, and he's athletic. Get him about from Josh Smith and he might blossom.

Wouldn't ATL have to want to get rid of him to do this?
