I posted my thoughts about top pick busts a couple of years ago here and I still think the concept applies (I found the post by searching for posts by me with the keyword "zetterberg", how's that for memory?!?!):

That is, if we would have "won" the 5th pick instead of the 2nd, Joe might have drafted Wade and we'd still be talking about how great of a picker he is. The lottery decided how great of a drafter he is.

When I evaluate JD's success with the draft.........I believe that as a child...he kept trying to force the
square peg into the round hole.

Kick it to the big man was a man ahead of his time. Never really appreciated during the brief time he was with us.

I was thinking the same thing reading through the thread. He was the Kurdt Cobain of this place. "It's better to burn out, than to fade away."

I become obsessed with Causality sometimes. What would this forum look like if Mercury and G-man were still here?

In the name of peace, I had to push both out. Might have been the wrong choice.

Perhaps Kick it to the big man and Panda should have flame warred until only one was left standing.

Note to self, don't get in the way of Darwinian competition.

It's cool that you can look back and critique yourself. For me, I carry the shame of possibly helping to drive Wiggles away by mocking his unique ability to procure inside info about forthcoming NBA moves. I think there is enough guilt to spread around but for my part, I feel troubled for not supporting Wiggles.

Wiggles knew you would stick the knife in his back and still created the thread so I don't think it mattered much to him.

Reminds me of the God Emperor Leto in Frank Herbert's "God Emperor of Dune". A prescient being who makes the ultimate sacrifice for the good of humanity. That was our @Wiggles@Wiggles.

I've always felt badly about @blueadams@blueadams getting the gate. It was my fault.

Actually his name was Paul, Leto was his father

Edit: never mind, I never got this far in the series. If I remember correctly Leto was also a child of Paul so I assume you talk about him

Yes. The OG was Leto, whose son was Paul (Muad'dib) whose son with Chani was Leto II. Leto II became the God Emperor and lived for 3,000 years, executing on his "Golden Path" of social and biological engineering to save humanity from destruction at the hands of a machine intelligence.

I am re-reading God Emperor of Dune right now. It is one of my favorite books of all time.

That's like asking Augusto Pinochet why he threw journalists out of helicopters.

Repeat offender of the "be nice" rule.

I was gravely concerned that he was about to start insulting your mother.
