You don't tank by running bad rotations, and sitting players.

You tank by surrounding good players with terrible role players. Thats how the Thunder did it. They had Durant drowning in the terribleness of the players around him.

I think there is an entire art to stealth tanking. It can be done by giving certain players too many minutes and others too few minutes. Bad combinations will certainly get the job done. Putting players into end-of-game situations they are not comfortable with can be effective. Creating mismatches for your opponent is another clever strategy. Flu-like symptoms to a key player is simple, but certainly can't be an over-rated method. Finally, you must be tankful if your opponent still has something to play for over the last couple of games.

I just don't see any player faking an injury to help his team tank unless he is a franchise player and he has a bit of a nagging injury anyway. In that case, he may say, "screw it, why sacrifice my body for meaningless wins that will hurt the team..."

speaking of Pistons, who has secured position in the team? only Drummond and Moose....they could take day or two off, but nobody from brass actually wants it - for them every game is important, in chemistry and overall developement. For the rest of team, every player is in danger of losing his spot and therefore it's hard to tank...

The team is just as bad as it was when it started the season. Either we've been tanking since the opening game, or we are so bad that one can't tell the difference.

I thought the team was really clicking when the 2nd unit found its identity. This began around mid-December. I believe the Pistons went south when Andre Drummond got hurt (February 4). Here are the records pre-Drummond-injury and during-Drummond-injury:

From Dec. 21 thru Feb. 3: Pistons were 11-9 (.550)

From Feb. 4 thru Mar. 26: Pistons were 6-18 (.250)

When CV was hot, and Drummond was playing fetch up near the top of the backboard with Bynum, we were winning.

AKA, when Tidbits was running proper units, rather than clogging up the paint.

With Drummond injured, there was no longer a player lurking around the hoop to clean up all the defensive mistakes.

Cleveland was up by 20 points after 3 quarters against Indiana tonight, but just blew the game. They were outscored 35-10 in the 4th quarter. That is professional tanking right there.

They need to lose their basketball program. Just shameless. Ain't nobody do it like Dan Gilbert.

We are probably a 6th pick and with this draft, I'm OK with this. Bennett or Oladipo.

Not to mention Jermaine O'Neal goaltending a game-winning 3 that was not going in the hoop in Houston... :bs:

They're tied with NOH right now, and someone has to be listed first - I'm sure the standings don't care about tie breaker rules. For the purposes of the lottery, it doesn't matter - the 5th and 6th slots would be averaged and each team would receive the same number of balls. If neither one moves up, Detroit would be slotted ahead of NOH because NOH beat them twice this year.

But to answer your question, who knows why ESPN puts tied teams where they are?

    According

to Ricky Davis, the Cavaliers purposely tanked in order to draft LeBron James:

A look at the lives and careers of controversial NBA players Ricky Davis and Lance Stephenson - Grantland

If you believe Ricky Davis is credible, this should be a huge story. Especially since it looks like Cleveland is at it again...

Why would ANYone question the credibility of Ricky Davis, a true ambassador of the game and the quintessential vision that James Naismith had in mind when he hung two peach baskets in that gymnasium all those years ago.

I question the credibilty of that hack tabloid-sports journalism Grantland site and this Johnathan Abrams fella they got "writing" for them.
When listing all of the teams that Ricky has played for throughout his amazing career, the author failed to mention that Ricky is currently the captain of the Denver Squirrels and is probably busy polishing his blinged-out championship ring that he won just a few days ago.

Irving mysteriously losing the ball out of bounds to seal the loss last night was a masterpiece in tanking.

The funny part is looking at how many minutes the coaches gave him as they were desperately trying to lose:

Last 10 games of the season- Davis's minutes
    45, 45, 48, 45, 44, 48, 29, 28, 52, 46

He got 45 mpg during the heavy tanking. Davis averaged 22 FGA per game during that stretch.

My personal favorite was Tristan Thompson's intentional foul of Andre Drummond. Very clever.

and yet another win. it sucks, every year the same thing, the teams starts winning when they shouldn't, people heat up when it doesn't matter.
