Supposedly it was for cap. I thought then and I still think now that that was baloney. I believe that Darko was traded because Sheed and his gang put the screws to Dumars.

Well what is done is done but it will sure be interesting to watch Darko tear Muhammed apart the next few years.

Gee, a Darko thread. How original. I can't wait for the new season. I'm sure we'll have a thread "tracking" Darko.

The Pistons gave away Darko?

    Joe Dumars: "You take Darko"
Otis Smith: "No really, I shouldn't"
Joe Dumars: "Nah, c'mon man. I want you to have Darko"
Otis Smith: "Well, if you say so. Thanks, thanks a lot."
Joe Dumars: "No problem. Everyone should have Darko."

I think the world of Ben Wallace but I feel Darko will take it right over him when Chicago plays Orlando. I feel Ben helped push Darko out to increase his leverage for negotiation. We shall see.

Ben didn't really negotiate very actively though... at least not with the Pistons.

Hoopshype posted an article about Orlando looking for a big man with their potential 1-5 draft pick next year. Will Darko help them finish with a great record... only to get replaced? Maybe he can help his negotiations at year end by making sure that they don't get that draft pick.

If they finish with a great record, they won't have that high of a pick.

Oh yeah, I had it backwards. I guess he should be fully motivated then.

I doubt the draft pick will mean much for leverage either way.

I seriously doubt that Ben was out to sabotage Darko's career with the Pistons. Ben's not the anti-christ, he just followed the money.

i agree ben pushed darko out. ben caused lots of problems this year cause he didn't fit in with flips system. darko would have been a better fit for this system. who could have beat us with an unselfish center you have to check on offense and can hit free throws. say what you want about darko but he also protects the rim and plays the pick and roll great. so putting in an offensive center wouldn't have hurt us as much as having ben defense only wallace in the middle.

ben told joe he would sign if darko was gone. he probably told joe he wouldn't resign just to come off the bench after darko in 1.5 years. joe is smart that deal was a bad deal any way you look at it. joe wouldn't send darko and arroyo who is tearing up the world championships by the way away for peanuts without ben pushing him over the edge.

Nothing has made sense since the all-star break with the Pistons. I am in a wait and see mode for next year but not with great optomism. We can go all the way back to losing Okur as not really making sense unless one looks at it from the saving money angle. How long can we go on saving money and still be an elite team? We won the championship on the cheap. At first, winning on the cheap was something to shout about but now it is getting troublesome.

Ben had some issues at the end but I can't knock the guy (or his game), a guy who was so instrumental in our championship. I just saw a film of Bill Russell play. I would say that Ben is the best off-the ball shot blocker I have ever seen. Saving money, the new NBA rules, overconfidence and a questionable playoff coach hurt the Pistons. Hard to gauge where Joe fits in on all of this if at all.

I can't help but watch Wade, Bosh and even Hendrich play and feel bad about drafting Darko. Getting rid of Darko on the cheap doesn't feel better.
