I liked Knight's personality, but it never manifested in on the court gains.
I agree. We were a train wreck though and he was a 20-21 year old PG.
He showed some great flashes in his time with us.
3 games with 30 or more points
5 games with 10 or more assists
67 games with multiple 3-point makes
Pope-like D. Held his man to 11.2 PER at PG spot (.433 eFG) and 12.7 PER at SG last year.
But there was something missing on offense. The assist/tov ratio was always very poor, which made people wonder whether he was a SG. His J has a low release and suffers greatly when contested, which would make him a below average offensive player at SG.
His niche will have to be as a defensive PG that punishes defenses with his range if they sag. For that to work, he'll actually need to improve for the next few years, which is relatively rare overall, but for young PGs, there are examples. His defensive ability is something that a lot of young PGs don't have. Tons of guys are better distributors though and it comes more naturally to them.
I also liked Knight (and also criticized his trade at the time) but he has obvious faults which he must improve before becoming a legit starter. I would've liked to keep him as a substitute for another year or two but I guess that wasn't possible.
With that said, I really like Jennings this year. I think that even before his skills I like his attitude and connection with this team, he's shown real effort in my eyes.
The biggest problem with his game was his dribbling. He dribbled really high for a guy his size, and seemed out of control too often. IIRC, his assist/passing TO ratio was on par with many other PGs in the league, but his ball handling TOs were too high.
Hence the broomstick drills.
Hindsight 20/20.........Not sure any of this is possible but I would have tried none the less.
I'd still sign Josh Smith.
3 team trade. Orl gets Jennings, Milw gets Knight/Middleton and we get Alf.
MCW/ ALF / Smith / Monroe / Drummond
I'd love to have ALF on the roster.
That team has one 3 point shooter, 2 slashers and 2 guys with no range beyond 10 feet. So we are literally in the same position, maybe even worse.
I strongly, strongly disagree.
Well I guess I guessed better than Joe-D this off-season.
Iggy was going wherever the money was. And I think Sloan would've come out to coach such a talented team.
Its not 20/20. Its what I said at the time.
1-We're not a shooting team. We're an inside team, and a running team. And I think that it would be a better outside shooting team, with Burke and Middleton. And I think Smith is fine at the 3 when he's there, and even better when he's giving someone else a break inside. And I think Sloan would've loved to have coached such a talented group.
20/20 means clear and in focus. In was a compliment.
He took less money to sign with Golden state? So that happens to be untrue.
