With possible strife amongst the players, and a rough start to the season, Illitch most likely lowered his offer once he had the exclusive rights to bargain for that month. My biggest concern as a prospective buyer would be the lip service that Joe is providing about the status of the team. I'm guessing that concerned Illitch also and as a result, he backed away from his original offer. This is not good for the team as this could drag on until well after the holidays...if it gets done this season at all. Just think of what happens to the price of the team if a strike rears its ugly head...
My guess is that Gores want a team so bad, he may in fact pay the price to get his team. If Illitch is bluffing, he is playing with fire and may just back fire on him. Then again, he may have read the same articles that we have been reading regarding the disarray and dysfunction of the team.
