Discussion in 'Pistons and NBA' started by detteam, Dec 25, 2006.
I'm a firm believer in leaving out evidence that doesn't support your conclusions.
"We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees." -Jason Kidd, after being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks Mercury, as a math teacher, I love this quote. It reminds me of something one of my sons said a few years ago that we always tease him about. He was arguing about how far away something was and he said very passionately "it may be 60 feet but no way it is 20 yards!" As soon as he said it, he had a look of horror on his face.
Since Amir has not had the luxury of being able to prove himself over a long period of time like KG, let's force KG to compete against Amir in limited minutes and see if he can live up to the hype. Garnett's first 3 games in the NBA as a 19-year old yielded the following: Mins- 53 Pts- 16 Rebs- 9 Ast- 3 Blcks- 1 PF- 3 Since Amir has only played 50 minutes so far, we will have to shrink KG's stats to "per 50 minute" stats. This gives 50 mins, 15 points, 8 rebs, 3 ast, 1 blck, 3 fouls, 54% FG. Amir has 50 mins, 24 points, 7 rebs, 3 ast, 3 blcks, 9 fouls, 75% FG. Now, we have cracked the code and revealed that Amir is actually 73% better than KG on a 'per first 50 minutes at the age of 19' basis. And now that we are comparing apples to apples, the rebounding looks very similar. Remember than Amir was competing with Darko for these rebounds, while KG was only competing against Sean Rooks. So, I would argue that Amir is probably better on the glass. Assists are a wash. But Amir dominates in both blocks, hard fouls, and FG%. If Amir shows the same improvement that KG has shown, then AJ will have the following #s at the 33,466 minute mark: 30,971 points, 8,470 rebounds, 3,928 assists, 4,488 blocks, and 6,714 hard fouls. The only player that this reminds me of, is Wilt Chamberlain. But even Wilt only had 21,970 points through 33,466 minutes. It is no wonder that we are hiding this kid until we can sign him to a 10-year contract at $600,000 per year.
Thanks for the laugh TaShawn.
This Amir movement is beginning to sound eerily familiar and beginning to scare me. lol. I like Amir, but he is nowhere close to proving his legitmacy in this league. I'll leave it at that.
Are you kidding me Mo? Amir, Wilt. Wilt, Amir. Sounds right to me. ;)
Come on Mo' - 50 minute stats don't lie.
Those extra two minutes are definitely a selling point for me.
But the dude can dance! Oh yeah, that signature, obviously not a motto you choose to follow if your fantasy persona is anything to go by...
lol. My fantasy persona is not to be taken seriously. I don't think I'm better than everyone just 98% of the population. ;) Besides, I would argue that it does follow me in fantasy b-ball. MainManJoeD has told me that my team is mediocre from the beginning yet I hang around with the big guys. I won't be denied. ...and yeah...Amir can dance so that has to count for something, right?
Hell yeah, thank you too!
Amir was noticed by Joe and was brought here to try out in 2005. He was number 56 in the draft, Acker wes number 60. Amir was Mr. Basketball of California the year we got him so I think that would mean he was the best high school player, He also couldn't play his junior year because of injury or something. Joe obviously sought him out and resigned him for this year,so he must see something there. His attitude is good and he seems happy. I think its going to work out for Amir and the Pistons. Also he could still be growing!
I can't believe I didn't think to do a per 33,466 minute comparison. It seems like an obvious statistic to use. If we're going to compare future Hall of Famers to Garnett, though, no list would be complete without Darko: KG= 17,868 points per 33,466 minutes. AJ=17,162 points per 33,466 minutes. Darko=10,753 points per 33,466 minutes.
I think people are looking at this all wrong. Is Amir the next KG or is KG the FIRST Amir?
how bout amir being the first amir? better than KG.
Why stop there, Roscoe? How about asking if WILT was the first Amir?
Wilt has 4 letters. Amir has 4 letters.......Coincidence?
Also: CHAMBERLAIN AMIRJOHNSON 11 letter each.
Well, so much for keeping this kid under wraps. Looks like the word is out, and Mr. D is going to have to reach deep into his members-only pockets if he wants to retain the services of [STRIKE]Chamberlain[/STRIKE], Amir Johnson.
