Maybe. But for me, it comes back to Charlie's willingness to put on another 5 pounds of muscle (haven't seen it), and then use that extra muscle in the post (skeptical).

I think it goes without saying that if Charlie had the willingness to do different things, he wouldn't have been cut by his national team.

Charlie has at least made himself useful this year. If he is going to play then he better shoot 3's. Lots of them.

He's pulled down a few tough defensive boards recently.

Charlie isn't even really worth discussing unless the conversation is about how stupid another team is for giving us ANY asset that can be construed as being positive.
What linwood said above is absolutely true. No matter what Charlie's advanced stats or 3pt % says, It's tough to really take him seriously.
    He's a bum.

I am still puzzled why he was not amnestied last summer (or the summer before that).

My theory is that it's a combination of things.
    1. Despite the propaganda coming from pathetic mouthpieces like Keith Langolis and others; I believe that Piston management KNOWS that the team wasn't/isn't good enough to compete. There's no need for cap space unless you intend to use it. I don't think they had any desire to spend any money on this team.

    2. Other than generating some cap space, another reason to amnesty BoT would be to save some money. If another team picks up CV, the Pistons are off the hook for at least part of this bum's salary. I gotta believe that they didn't feel like there was any other teams out there that would be interested. Because of this, it's much easier to save face by conjuring up some injuries for him (sleep related ankle problems) and stashing him in street clothes.
I think the hope was that CV would work to get himself in shape and the Pistons could possibly convince a team to bite on a trade for him. He's actually shown glimpses of being able to contribute to a team this season in select situations. He's still impossible to move though due to his paycheck.

That may not be the case next season or this summer.

    Agreed.
Worse case scenario, he's an expiring contract.

We've seen zero evidence from Joe that he ever intended to amnesty Charlie, or that he intends to get rid of Charlie.

To be fair we saw zero evidence that Prince was about to be traded either.... Actually I can't think of one trade that we can saw we all saw coming....

As expected, BoT will be staying in Detroit. I don't have an issue with that. It's what everyone expected him to do and it's a no-brainer decision for him. He's played like (expletive) and he'll be lucky to find a minimum salary contract once his deal is done.

What I most definately DO have an issue with is the 'would you let that money go' quote.
I don't think that it's a wise decision to tell the fanbase that you've hosed and the team that you've ROBBED of millions of dollars that you're making the 'obvious' decision to not 'let the money go'.
If I was Joe, I'd send him home for the rest of the season. He just rubbed the fact that Joe screwed up by signing him in everyone's face!

I would have prefered something like: "It hasn't worked out the way that I wanted it to here in Detroit and I fell like I owe the team and our fans my best effort. I'm staying for my final year and I'm going to do everything that I can to make things right by helping this team."

    Charlie is a T U R D and an idiot.

His PER with the team was:
    16.0 in 2010
    15.9 in 2011
    16.2 in 2012
    16.0 in 2013

Compared to 16.3 for his career average.

He could make the argument that Detroit destroyed his market value with the prolonged benching and therefor he needs to use his option to get his fair pay. If he would have been a starter this whole time (instead of Maxiell), maybe his market value would be higher and he would have declined the playa option.

Maxiell's PER over the same timeframe:
    14.0
    9.4
    11.7
    11.1

I'm just glad that we get to see another year's worth of line drive three pointers miraculously go in. He's our only big man answer to the paint packing group of players that we have in Bynum, Stuckey, Monroe, Maxiell, and Drummond.

Dude, you're right. - my bad.
Charlie got screwed by the Pistons.
Joe should fire yet another coach and extend Charlie's contract for 5 more years.

Just saying that he's the exact same dude we signed. He would have been tradable if we would have played him like milwaukee did. We bought a million dollar house and then listed it with no furniture and took cell phone pictures.

Sorry joe signed a one way player at an aggressive price. His fault. Charlie has a good attitude and tries hard. He puts in his sauna time as directed.
