    From Krista Jahnke:
    McDyess' contract extended

Looks like youngsters are going to get a burn. Sheed will average about 25 minutes, we have Nazr and Dyess with about 35 between them. That should leave about 35 minutes at 4 and 5 and possibly additional minutes at 3. So Amir and J-Max should have enough time to show what they can do and develop further.

Sheed better average a whole lot more than 25 minutes a game.

I agree. I am all for limiting minutes, but he is are big money guy. Even in the conservative Spurs Duncan puts up low 30 mpg. Here is my expected minutes per game of the four bigs (Sheed, Nazr, Max, Dyess, AJ) at least in the beggining of the season. Total of 96 minutes for the two spots:

    Sheed: 35
    Dyess: 20
    Nazr: 20
    Max: 20
    Aj: 5

I know we all want AJ to play, but I feel in the beggiing he will be getting low minutes till proven otherwise. Do not at any case think this is what I want, just what I expect.

Naw, 35 is too much. More like 30.

He averaged 32 minutes last year his lowest mpg since we won the title in 2004! Just stating the facts, not implying anything

    Rasheed Wallace Statistics - Basketball-Reference.com

I think Dyess will get his 20 + minutes a game, unless he is hurt

    Therefore:

I think the variables that will affect Sheed's minutes this year will be:

    1. Whether Nazr can remove the glue from his pants that has kept him stuck on the Pistons bench

    2. The success of AJ and JMax.

To the extent that the minutes of Nazr AJ and JMax in total go up, Sheed's should go down, with the caveat of how many of JMax minutes will be as a backup to Tay.

I see the front line minutes (144 available a game) going like this

    Dyess 20
    Sheed 30
Nazr 16 (foul trouble again will keep his minutes down) (unless he is traded)
    Tay 33
    JMax 20
    AJ 20
    All Others 5
    -------------
    Total 144

    Just guessing:

    Starters:
    Tay: 36
    Sheed:32
    Dyess:28

    Reserves:
    JMax: 20
    AJ: 16
    Nazr: 12

This assumes that with his new 2 year, $14 million contract extension, that Dyess is ready to start over Nazr. If Dyess is not healthy enough to start and play starters minutes, then he should not have been given that big contract extension.

My guess would be that Joe will want to have his starters playing close to 30 minutes, especially since Tay and Chauncey are participating in the US team summer camp. I would look at the minutes as follows:

    Sheed 30
    Dyess 20
    Tay 30
    Nazr 15
    J-Max 20
    AJ 15
That leaves 14 minutes for other players to fill in.
Sheed averaged 34 and 32 minutes respectively during the past two seasons. Dyess would be at 20 which is about his average since he came to Pistons. Tay has to have his minutes significantly decreased. AJ needs minutes to show what he can do and develop. He won't develop much from practices and riding the pine.

AJ doesn't "ride the pine", he "floats above it"!!
