Rumor: Pistons thinking about Isiah Thomas as next top executive - CBSSports.com
NBA Rumors: Detroit Pistons not hiring Isaiah Thomas
If Gores wants to reach back in the past, just hand both the coaching and GM jobs to Laimbeer. If Popovich can do it successfully for 10-15 years, then maybe Bill can too. After all he held both jobs for the Shock and turned it in to three titles with his GM moves and on the floor discipline.
Donald Sterling got rid of both his coach and GM last year and gave both jobs to Doc Rivers. The rewards have not materialized yet, but he has been able to keep the team in the mix despite key injuries to Paul and Reddick. ...and attract some key buyout players in Big Baby, Hedo and Granger
After reading about the terrible job he did at the Knicks, I hope Gores does not make this move.
That was the Knicks. this is the Pistons, his home and where he started and ended his career. I don't think he would crap up his home. I have always loved Zeke and the fire that he brought. He always had an eye for talent. I would like him as the GM, but with Laimbeer coaching.

Pistons deny all interest in Zeke. Isiah Thomas 'not a candidate for any job with the Pistons,' owner's spokesman says | MLive.com
Zeke could've been a great, great coach if he had the patience to spend two or three season on Chuck or Knight's bench. He could've been a good GM if he spent two or three seasons in McCloskey's office. But he had no patience. Never had. And it helped him as a player. But it killed his, apparent, second aspiration.
I'd steer clear. Completely.
Guessing Gores does something stupid, like hiring Phil Jackson for flash (who won't, IMO, put in the hours), or hiring an analytics nerd. I wish he'd give Jerry Sloan a shot (or try getting Larry Brown to sign a contract with a massive buy-out). Either one could HC & GM IMO.
If you are looking for a better GM than we currently have, Zeke is not your guy.
Only Joe would be dumb enough to hire Isiah.
The Pistons don't need a GM, they need an entire front office infrastructure.
I bet there wasn't a team at the Sloan Conference with a smaller presence than the Pistons. Joe probably thinks it's a roast for Jerry Sloan.
And the whole gang of assist coach (save for Sheed ) and staffs. They failed to improve any player Joe'd signed, say 5 seasons, and right now the whole team are not strong enough for 48 minutes.
Maybe they just need to upgrade the facilities more.
Pretty cool video of how the Bad Boys defended Jordan.
Unforgettable Moments: The Jordan Rules | THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE DETROIT PISTONS
These kinds of videos must be required education for our players. If these clowns had half the pride and fire that the Bad Boys had, we'd be above .500 now.
The sadness of out situation is that JD forgot his defensive minded roots,
But Joe is so smart, he knows that in today's NBA there is no offense or defense. To be successful you need guys who are fenseless.
No positions, no players, no basketballs. Stats don't matter because it is impossible to measure a sport with such low viscosity. Everything is interchangeable. The player becomes the ref. The ref the basket. The basket the floor. How can you quantify such seismic shifts in the paradigm?
'What is basketball?'
'Are we even playing a game?'
'Is there any meaning to this?'
These are the questions Joe Dumars asks himself when he pockets the change after buying extra buttered popcorn.
