No disrespect to a man that taught us what the D in Detroit meant but I think it is time for him to step aside.

Ben Wallace had an impact on games because of his hustle, quickness and athleticism. These things have left him.

    His rebounds are down.
    His blocks are down.
His defense isn't what it used to be.
He was never a scorer but on this team it becomes an issue. Without a rebound he can't even get the easy ones.

It is time to move Monroe into the starting line up. He has shown the ability to rebound and even hit a jumper. He can make a free throw and needs the time on the floor to develop.

I think there is no time like the present to make this move. The starting line up has been juggled over and over again but Ben has always been in. According to the Piston Site he has started all 30 games but I know he sat out at least one.

We need more then 3 points from this position. Let him come off the bench as the third big. Move Wilcox up the chart. I have been saying all along that Wilcox can help us if he got some more playing time. He has some of the athletic abilities that Ben used to have and can play above the rim.

We can stop the Max experiment too. Move Summers into the back up PF role and let's see what some consistent minutes would do for him.

I agree. As much as we love Ben he is not the future of this team. He has to be able to come off the bench and support young Greg.

    Summers needs a chance too.

    I agree,too.

Nothing to lose by giving Monroe the starting job and letting him develop his skills for the future...when it counts. Ben has given his all to this team, but not much left in the tank.

But is there going to be sulking and brooding with the change? It could disrupt the fine team morale and chemistry. Oh...never mind.

    Just sayin'...:stirthepot:

I guess that brings up a good point.

Would Ben be the type to complain and become a disruption to the team??

    I don't think he would.

He is there mainly to set an example. Coming off the bench with pride would be yet another display of leadership from Ben Wallace.

He started off last season amazingly strong, but faded in the second half of the year. This year, he's clearly lost a step. No shame in that as he's old and has high mileage as an undersized center.

If he has to have his minutes cut now...fine. I just wish people hadn't been acting like this was the case 5 years ago.

It is not like Ben is playing a lot of minutes. Monroe may not be capable of returning on DD's desires.

At least he is playing consistently. He looked pretty bad last night which is to be expected at times.

I would like to see Ben as our defensive specialist. Give Monroe and Wilcox a crack at whomever the opposition throws at us. If they can't stop him and he is absolutely killing us; then bring Ben in. It wouldn't matter how much he has played up to that point because he doesn't have a shot to get rusty. Maybe the time off between games would allow him to show like he did the last game when he went off for his career highs.

Gotta love The Low and his Ben Wallace radar! I swear, I knew he was going to show up within minutes of these posts! :pound:

I see Ben retiring after this season, but it would be nice to see Kuester make the move himself this season when it is required rather than just wait for the easy path to pan out.

He he...I fought the urge on a number of occasions, but even Ben has stated he's nearing the end of his run. It would be ridiculous of me to still be going on about his play and minutes, etc. I'm just glad he's around to shut it down in the D.

I think this is the next logical move. Wilcox deserves a chance to play for his next contract. I'm down for a rotating CV, CW and GM. Not the best defensive unit, but ain't like we're winning anyway, we got nothing to lose. By the time we come back from this 3 game west coast trip we will pretty much be out of the playoff picture.

Promote Ben to some sort of player/assistant role or Defensive
Coordinator. On effort alone, Ben still deserves to get some minutes. I'd try and figure out a way to give him some sort of authority over the defense. Guys like CV and G-Money could only benefit from the "official" tutelage of a DPOY.

I'd deputize him and give him full authority over the weight room, curfew enforcement, defense, and music selection in the locker room.

When he signed here I really do not think he was planning on playing more than 20 MPG. In limited mins where he does not have to pace himself I think he can be a lot better. Leave it to Q to turn an asset into a liability, like everyting else.

I would love to see more summers. What do we have to lose at this point other than not showcasing Maxiel for a trade which never comes.

We may have better luck moving Max if we hide him on the bench and keep people guessing about what he can do.

Good comments by all....I agree that Ben should just come in with the second unit and provide about 12-14 mins a game...start the second qtr with Rip and play 6 mins and then about 8 mins between the end of the 3rd and beginning the 4th

Ben's averaging 24.4 mpg this season, 4mpg less than last year. He's not really being overused by that much. If Q cuts him down another 4 minutes or so, it'll be fine.
