    Yeah, they officially waived him.

"Oct. 30 - 1:18 p.m. ET The Knicks waived swingman Jalen Rose on Monday.
This is somewhat shocking news. We heard they were going to try to buy him out, but instead they just cut him."

How does this work? Do the Knicks still have to pay the full $16 mil? Do they get a credit for any portion of that someone else pays?

The buyout is negotiable... the buyout portion is what stays on the Knicks salary cap. Jalen will most likely settle for the league minimum which will put his salary close to his 2006 salary.

If he clears waivers, the Knicks will continue to pay him the guaranteed portion of his deal and he becomes a free agent.

Yes this is a concern... it also prevents us from getting value for Davis's expiring deal (unless we bring back another center).

    Question to the resident capologist.

Nets signed Darvin on Saturday, and waived him today. Is there any possible reason or advantage to signing a guy, and then waiving him two days later?

So I guess it will be Wednesday till we know about Jalen. I am really hoping he becomes a Piston. I think he has a house here. He also donates a lot of money in Detroit. I don't think anyone will pick him up for 16mil plus, so I think we have a good chance. And the Knicks shouldn't care if he stays in the east since they are not a contender anyway. COMEON JALEN!

Uh, cause Thorn is an idiot?
Prolly just wanted to take a flyer on him to see if he could outplay a guy they were thinking about keeping... kinda like that tough guy Joe brought in to test Tay's Moxie

i'd scoop jalen up without hesitation. he's a great vet at a bargain price. i'm just not comfortable with flip, blaylock and lindsey as our only backup pg. jalen provides flexibility because he can play pg, sg and sf.

I woulda thought you'd be against this since Rose could effect Delfino's PT

The Pistons would have been a nice fit last year with Jalen. I like him but its just a piece that would have no place. New York waited until the last day because no team will have training camp time with him.
Jalen is not in shape and know one knows his frame of mind. He does like the Pistons its just something there thats not appealing to me anymore about Jalen.

He was one of the players Dumars spoke of a little bit last summer along with Wells.

A vet that can play multiple positions and provide more scoring off the bench.

Damn right I'd take Jalen for the league minimum.

I can't believe people are not talking more about signing Darvin Ham to back up NAZR while TAZR is out with a bad hammy.

If we need a center, Dupree can always be given his walking papers. We surely won't need Dupree if we pick up Rose.

While that can be done...would it really happen. These guys are not assets but real people with families and dreams and more importantly agents. People will judge you by how you treat others.

I like this point Slippy... as fans we tend to forget the personal side... I'm sure nobody would want their names drug thru the mud for their families to see... there's also Joe's pride to consider... he thought these guys were worth bringing on board... he's the one that made them promises.
Ronald Dupree is a solid NBA player... this is a guy who could have a legit gripe about not getting a chance... when he plays it's all about effort... maybe not as skilled at handling the ball but he still shoots for a high % by getting to spots quicker... this is just as important as taking a man off the dribble or shooting with range.
IMHO, Dupree would dominate Jalen on the court... athleticism & defense need to be taken into account.... Jalen gets the nod in the playoffs when composure matters....
Something that Isiah said really hit home when he said I don't know that Jalens body can respond and he's having issues defending.... however I'll bet that a Lindsay Hunter boot camp would bring new life into those old legs.... this adds some new fun speculation to a week of waiting.
