I doubt Coack K or Grant Hill watched it.

It is a healthy topic to discuss....there isn't much outrage about the hate mail they received. Do you think Gentleman Grant Hill got that kind of hate mail?

They might call him a "Johnny Walker"

Viewing from other side of the earth, " The cabin of Uncle Tom" is door-mat to learn about America, but the meaning of Uncle Tom was distorted somewhat along the course of time. So far I got an impression here that both Coach K and Mr. Hill hadn't even read the book and nor Rose's article. Peace.

Very true, I bet most people don't really care about Jalens Uncle Tom talk. The strong reactions to this is more about signaling which group (i.e. the group condemning stuff like this) they belong to and maintaining their status within that group, something far more important to most people than if someone in fact got offended by Jalens words.

I am very glad that this topic has stayed grounded. This speaks much towards the general maturity of our community and the dedication of the moderators and admin that keep us level headed for the most part. Thanks everyone.

I agree with the point Darth Tater posted. Jalen's comments were definitely interspersed with some spite in my opinion. Had he been able to afford a full time publicist his words may have more closely resembled the nugget of gold that Grant Hill rolled out for the press.

Then again hindsight is 20/20, and I certainly wish Jalen would have been able to focus his criticisms directly on the Duke sports program and their recruiting practices rather than turning this into a situation that unfortunately was misdirected onto some of the players that came from that school.

My mistake, nobody had come to correct me though. It gotta be "Uncle Tom's Cabin", should've reconfirmed before posting.

Walker, great point, couldn't say it any better way.

This topic has stayed grounded, I guess. We tend to tread lighlty in this forum. I would say we are afraid to disagree sometimes and dance around serious topics like this.

I don't buy that. I think people here respect each other enough to not let things escalate into pointless shouting matches. No one has ever been banned here for having a different opinion, people have been banned for attacking others or trying to deliberately poison the well.

If you disagree with someone, tell them so. Just find a way to do it that isn't ad hominem.

    @ basketbills

Is it safe to say you and I are polarized on most issues around here?

I always know which way you are going on an issue and I'm sure you could guess where I am headed.
